Hi Everyone,
This is my 600th post! Three years and 2 months that is how long it took... I can't believe you all are still hanging out with me but I am so glad you are.
One of the sweet friends I have made along the way is Terry she moved here last year and happens to be an old friend of my Quilted Fish team mate Jana's ... here is the adorable quilt she made from Peak Hour
and what a great picture too...
I love having the flickr group so that I can see all of the lovelies you make. Thanks for participating everyone!
Now that I have made a decision about the shop (even though it is scary) I actually got a good night's sleep last night. We are putting in an application for a retail space. It is perfect and when I saw it I knew it had to be mine. More info about the shop later.
So it is 600th post / belated 3 yr blogiversay celebration week. We will do 3 givaways this week (3 for 3 years) starting today. These will be fast and merciless get your comments in quick because you only have 2 days. I will end todays on Wednesday morning when I announce the next giveway so you have today and tomorrow to enter. I will give away a full fat quarter bundle of Avignon for todays giveaway .. look at this great picture Brooke took:
And a little something she is whipping up with it:
Awesome right? This is not the whole collection though. You will receive all 18 prints if you win the giveaway.
To Enter:
Leave a comment telling me what kind of notions that you specifically go to a quilt shop for. Since I know most of us use those 50% off coupons form jo-ann for our notions...what don't you buy from the big J but buy from your LQS? Please do not enter by saying "Please enter me in the giveaway" you actually need to answer the question even if it is only one word like "Patterns" okay? Seems fair to me :)
See ya on Wednesday with the next Giveaway....

Dear Julie,
ReplyDeleteI usually go for fabrics but I love rulers, threads, fabric pencils, needles and pins. That makes my job easier. Thanks for the beautiful giveaway!!!
Sometimes there are books you can't find at the coupon place, but I also go to my LQS to get specialty buttons you also can't find. I also buy my jelly rolls, layer cakes, and charm packs at my LQS.
ReplyDeleteBest Press, good quality thread, silk pins, cutting blades, patterns, things that I buy on impulse......
ReplyDelete600 posts! Good for you and the readers.
ReplyDeleteI go to a quilt shop for good thread and good ideas from the samples on display.
I don't really have a LQS but if I had a convenient local place, I would prefer to buy thread in person - it is so hard to tell the colors online.
ReplyDeleteBesides the fabric I will buy rulers and templates.
ReplyDeleteI buy fabrics there, but my local LQS is small (this is small town), so I have to buy online, too. But I've gotten "emergency feet" (sewing machine feet) from the LQS, and DMC floss when driving into Nashville is out of the question. Oh, and they have a guy who repairs the OLD sewing machines, which is REALLY IMPORTANT to me. I'd rather keep my old machines than buy a new one, ANY DAY.
ReplyDeleteI can never find good thread anywhere other than the quilt shop... and looking at all the fabric is so much fun.
ReplyDeleteActually good pins too.
Congrats on 600 that is a huge accomplishment!
Congratulations on 600 posts! I buy bobbins since I can only get the ones I need for my Babylock at my LQS. I buy specialty rulers as well since the big stores don't carry a good variety.
ReplyDeleteI just found a quilt shop not far from me. The notions I buy from either the LQS or online are the titanium quilting needles by superior. I just discovered them and prefer them to the Schmetz needles. I am not sure if the quilt shop has them in stock or not, but I will definitely continue to buy them at quilt shops online.
ReplyDeleteSewline glue sticks. My version of JoAnns (Spotlight) does not stock them.

I just discovered them and prefer them to the Schmetz needles. I am not sure if the quilt shop has them in stock or not, but I will definitely continue to buy them at quilt shops online.
ReplyDeleteI go to my LQS for better thread. In particular I want to try Aurifil but my LQS doesn't have it.
ReplyDeleteI love to buy embroidery and wool patterns at my favorite quilt shop, Kathie's in Springvale, Maine.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteAt my LQS, I buy fabric and thread along with specialty rulers for the most part. I am certainly an impulse buyer....if it is on sale, it just jumps into my bag. lol
I buy patterns, thangles, and every now and then a ruler that Jo Ann's doesn't carry. Beautiful fabric. And congratulations on coming to a decision.
ReplyDeleteTerry's quilt is darling! She is so awesome. Anyway, I go to my LQS for good thread. I also go for my special leather thimbles that you can't get at a big box store. I also go for patterns and inspiration. I am so excited for your shop!!! It is going to be so cute.
ReplyDeleteI go to my LQS for nearly everything also for the great classes.
ReplyDeletelyn.robyn.smith@gmail.com
If I go to J, I usually get batting or the blades for my rottery cutter. Thanks for a chance to win and congrats!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely thread. Also marking pens. A lot of notions I actually buy in bulk online.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 600th!! I specifically go for Heat-n-Bond Lite, since my Hobby Lobby and Joann's doesn't seem to carry it by the yard. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI just found a LQS fairly close by and signed up for my first quilt class. So I'm planning on buying my supplies there which include some really good thread and something called Best Press. Congrats on your 3 years and 600th post! and thanks for the chance to win :) Fingers crossed!!
ReplyDeleteI like to buy specialty rulers as well as precuts from my LQS. I also tend to walk out with more than I went in for....which is great for both us:)
ReplyDeleteI go to my simi-local (50 miles away) for fabric & thread!
ReplyDeleteWow! You've taken a big step, congrats! Hmmm, what notions do I buy at my LQS? Thread, usually. And, if I'm in a hurry, batting.
ReplyDeleteCongrats with your blog anniversary and 600 posts (I'm far behind ;) )
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful giveaway!
I usually buy in local quilt shops interesting stitching and sewing patterns from local designers (you can't find such a variety in a big shop), and some lovely things like needlework scissors, thimbles, buttons and charms.
Hugs,
Tatyana
I'm new to quilting but so far I have purchased some Aurifil thread from my LQS. Also fabric. Congratulations on this milestone, and thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteellen(at)myerly(dot)net
I buy rulers from my LQS and needles too :o)
ReplyDeleteI like to buy patterns from my LQS but I also like to buy things I don't understand because the people at the LQS can give me an understanding that "J" can't.
ReplyDeleteI only have one quilt shop near me, but at the risk of offending them, I'd rather buy from you any day. I don't buy many quilting notions but I did pick up some perle cotton from them last time I was there.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the milestones. I go to my LQS for specialty rulers & templates & Aurifil threads.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your 600th post but especially for choosing to open a shop! How exciting! I regularly go to quilt shops to buy the latest fancy dancy rulers and marking tools...chalks and pens. Good luck...you'll do awesome. Thanks for the chance...the fabrics are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteCan I be brutally honest? I don't go to LQS's for much of anything, because they simply aren't close enough and they usually don't have what I want at a price I can afford. I can actually get fabric cheaper, as well as notions, buying from online shops, like yours. I find that many shops near, if you call over 1 hour drive near, to me, don't carry modern fabrics. I'm just not into civil war stuff and I don't want to spend $30 in gas to come home empty handed.
ReplyDeleteThanks for a chance to win your giveaway.
I like to buy fabric, patterns, and even sometimes tools online. Otherwise, I mostly buy notions at Joann's.
I tend to buy all my notions from my LQS's as they are all closer to me than Jo-Ann's which is over 1 1/2 hours from me.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your 600th post. I just finished my beginners quilting class at my LQS, I purchased the material, thread, batting, needles, fabric pen & a hand quilting frame. I will be returning for stencils & quality fabric for sure.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 600!!! I go LQS for patterns, specialty trims (like giant ricrac and pompoms), really good quality fabric, and all of those fun shaped rulers that I seem to be growing a collection of :)
ReplyDeleteOooh congrats! I tend to prefer patterns and templates for stenciling from my LQS. I'd love to have a closer LQS that carried a variety of purse hardware and the like- but I know there's only so much space!
ReplyDeleteI buy almost all my notions at my LQS - my favourites are needles and aurofil thread.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the 600th post!
I go for thread and needles usually. I purchased a applique ironing mat, a large ruler. I try to continually buy some things there.
ReplyDeleteI am so far from the quilting shops my only real options are online or JoAnns.. so I think I would like to buy quilting thread from a local shop though. I'm not that happy to shop at one of my other main options with the drive being so far.
ReplyDeleteYou however I would love to buy stuff from. You can show me all the things I'm missing out on.
I go for fabric, first and foremost. I don't usually find the kind of fabric I like for quilts at the big box stores. I also re-supply myself with my favorite thimbles and pins made by Clover. Big Box doesn't carry the entire Clover line but my LQS usually has what I am looking for.
ReplyDeleteI generally go for patterns--Joann's doesn't carry ThimbleBlossoms, Sweetwater, etc patterns that I love! I also like Aurafil thread--in different weights for applique and such.
ReplyDeleteWow 600! Wonderful. Great quilt by your friend.
ReplyDeleteI buy leather dots from my LQS (they stick on your finger and are a finger thimble)
I go to my LQS for lots of notions, mostly my specialty rulers and patterns. Also love all the new little goodies they have, such as the flower pin cushions that go in the tops of spools, needle holders and the likes, you know, those "impulse" items! :)
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you have made a decision on the shop. Can't wait to hear all about it!
Sandy A
Happy 600th post!!!
ReplyDeleteWhen I go to my Local Quilt Shop....I am usually getting backing or binding material. Sometimes I might grab a few spools of thread. Just depends But to be honest...MOST of the time I am buying everything on line
Well... First of all congrats and i buy thread... Aurifil to be exact and things like paper piecing templates, hand sewing needles, hera markers, clover seam rippers. Stuff like that!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 3 years! Exciting!
ReplyDeleteI go to the LQS for thread mostly.
Thanks for the giveaway!
I go to my LQS specifically for good quality fabric and for thread!
ReplyDeleteLove the variety of fabric and patterns at my LQS. Congratulations on your milestone!!
ReplyDeleteNotions that I don't buy at Joann's? Usually specialty quilting notions, like the Clover bobbin holder that stacks and rotates, or a wooden serger spool holder/turntable. I buy rotary cutter blades from Joann's with a coupon, and usually basting spray, although I'd buy both elsewhere if it was comparably priced to the coupon price.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 600 posts and 3 years!! Woohoo!!
congrats and thanks for the giveaway ! I go for patterns and GOOD QUALITY thread ! sorry ; I gave you 2 ; but figure you won't mind !
ReplyDeleteI usually try to stock up on thread and those speciality rulers.
ReplyDeleteI always go to the store for those curved safety pins to keep your quilt together!!
ReplyDeleteRulers and fabric.
ReplyDeleteI don't buy much at the LQS - partially because it's 40 minutes from home, partially because I can find more competitive prices online, and partially because my LQS favors old lady fabric.
ReplyDeleteFrom Joann I get rotary cutter blades, thread, backing & binding fabrics.
I'm a newbie quilter and I JUST found out about 2 semi-local quilt shops. When I make my trips to visit I will definitely be looking at the different quilting rulers. Seems like my local JoAnns doesn't have a large selection of good rulers to choose from.
ReplyDeleteWow. Congratulations on the application and the big anniversary as well.
ReplyDeleteI honestly haven't bought alot of anything lately so shocker, I have thrown away a lot of those nice coupons because they expired. The few things I have bought lately have been from my local quilt shop. I bought a new template set created by Monique Dillard while there to see her and have her autograph my book of hers that I won. And at another shop I bought another ruler I needed, actually two of them there. So I guess rulers and templates would be my answer based on recent shopping trips.
600 posts and 3 years - congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI really like the patterned cotton bias tapes which my LQS stocks. I could always make my own, but it's nice to know I can buy some ready made. :)
LQS - special embroidery thread and Auriful. Special cutting rulers and patterns! some fabrics from there and some from on line shops :) thank you!
ReplyDeleteI usually buy things like notions from JoAnn's since they're so cheap. I bought a couple pairs of scissors there and occasionally I'll find a book I want, although I usually buy those from Barnes and Noble with my discount card and coupons! I try to support my LQS, but honestly, it's hard to do that when I can get most of my fabric for much cheaper in online stores like yours.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 3 years of blogging! Thanks for making the commitment!
ReplyDeleteI want to see notions that I cannot buy from Joann. I want to see different kinds of rulers. I want to see unique notions that I see int he backs of magazines. I don't want to see All-Clover all the time. I also want to see a few different of each - 2-3 different seam rippers, for example, because I may be shopping for a new one and may have a few already. Measuring tapes (the really long ones!) are useful, too. I also don't like it if there are a lot of empty spaces in the notions area. Rearrange if you are out of something for awhile.
Wooden Gate quilts in San Ramon (Danville, maybe?) had a really nice selection of notions. Check out some other quilt shops and buy what they don't have. ;-)
Thanks for asking!
I go to a LQS for things like specialty rulers. Usually my Joann don't carry many options in rulers...
ReplyDeleteI dont have a Joanns around here. We have a local fabric store that I go to buy some fabric and sometimes I get some fat quarters.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a LQS nearby, so that's why I buy fabric online. At Joann's I mostly buy blades, thread, and needles.
ReplyDeleteWell last time I was there I tried to buy a new foot for my machine and they told me i couldn't use a coupon on machine accessories!!!! >:/
ReplyDeleteWe don't have a Joann's nearby so I go to the local quit shop for fabric and advice!
ReplyDeleteI go to the quilt shop for the nice bag hardware they don't have it JA. The swivel clip, d-rings, magnetic clasps in matching finishes would be great to find in one place for the people who make bags.
ReplyDeleteBackings and bindings and kits! JoAnns can't put together custom kits the way a quilt shop can. Best luck with your new business venture!
ReplyDeleteI make every effort to support my LQS however occasional fat quarters and sale yardage usually push my budget. Even, with shipping costs, online purchases are so often much more affordable.
ReplyDeleteI go for designer fabric and for personal one on one support, advice and HELP! Lisamcgriff@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteIs a book a notion? I usually buy my books at my LQS because they don't mind if I sit and thumb through it in the store to see if I really want it. I also buy felt at my LQS, not really sure if that is a notion either but those are the more unusual things I tend to buy at my LQS that I don't at the Big J!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 600!
Aurifil Thread!!!
ReplyDeleteGo you! What a great 3 years.
ReplyDeleteI am frantically looking for lanyard hardware. But besides that i usually look for "good" patterns
I like to get thread, especially Aurifil, and patterns at my LQS. Also, sometimes I am inspired to buy fabrics for a special project. Congratulations on your blogaversary!!
ReplyDeleteThe main reason I go to quilt shops is for their better quality fabrics and specialty patterns. The also have samples hanging in the shop to give me ideas of what to make next!
ReplyDeleteI go for specialty items. Joanns carries a ton of general purpose items but things that are specifically for one trade such as sewing or quilting. That's why I go to my LQS. Congras on another year and let's keep going for many more! :D
ReplyDeleteNo quilt shop in Sri Lanka - but I'd like to have a ripper!!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!!!!
ReplyDeleteI go most for unique fabrics and Serendipity patterns
I like to get specialty threads at the LQS. Beautiful bundle!
ReplyDeleteMostly for fabrics but also for Serendipity patterns. Congrats!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI buy specialty rulers at my LQS as well as sashiko thread and needles from them. Of course I may pick up a FQ of fabric?
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your 600th post-your blog and shop are AWESOME!!!!
marking pencils/pens are always smthg i look for at the LQS, along with good threads. i browse patterns too. congrats!
ReplyDeleteI go to a lovely quilt store in the country that was an old barn but now a beautfil place to shop! I buy interfacing, thread and specialty rulers from them....awolk at rogers dot com
ReplyDeleteI get my quilter's gloves, rulers, and thread there. I can't find certain quilting specific notions at any of the bigger craft stores.
ReplyDeleteI mostly buy from the big J when shopping for notions simply because I'm on a super tight budget. That being said, there are always special rulers, tools and such that I can't find there and will go to a LQS for. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI am always looking for the next-best-ruler or cutting jig! Congrats on the landmark and many more to come!
ReplyDeleteBetsy
I only go to my LQS when we go to the main land, we live on a island and the only way on and of the island is by people ferry or car barge. So most of the time I order online.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 600! I go to my LQS to purchase the fabrics I can't get at other local stores, plus, my LQS has the best quilt kits! I also love the sales gals, so friendly and helpful; you can't get that in a big box store!
ReplyDeletei buy solid cotton, green, orange, lilac....buT in argentina!
ReplyDeletecongrats for the 3 years!!!
Congrats on 600 posts! wow! I go to the LQS to purchase silk threads for applique. Thanks for the giveaway chance.
ReplyDeleteI go to them for fabric, we don't have a Joannes here, our local equivilent is Spotlight and it's horrible so I avoid it whenever possible!
ReplyDeleteI use my local shop for tools, thread, I interesting rulers (like Dresden) and for matching fabrics when I paw through my stash to make something and then don't have enough for binding!
ReplyDeleteThread immediately springs to mind! Mind you, I always come away with more than just thread. :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the 600 posts/3 yrs celebration, and all the best with the Shop!
My LQS is over an hour away and I go there for a certain brand of thread and for patterns. I want to support the as much as possible, so I attend classes and buy as much as I can from them.
ReplyDeleteI always buy my fabric from quilt shops, but I guess that isn't really a notion. I buy my favorite Creative Grids rulers at my LQS, and those handy little unpackaged zippers in a variety of fun colors! Plus books, patterns, and the occasional quilt kit!
ReplyDeleteI go to my LQS for gadgets and for needles that Jo's does not carry. Sometimes templates and EPP papers if I can't wait to order them mail order.
ReplyDeleteI go for felt. They have nice felt there by the yard. and I like to get thread and check out the remnant bins and sale section.
ReplyDeletePatterns and nice thread. And specialty rulers. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteFirst, congrats on your achievement. That is an amazing feat! As for notions, I usually hit the LQS for thread, needles, blades, zippers. Sometimes I buy fabric at LQS, but usually I shop online for fabric.
ReplyDeleteI buy designer fabrics from my LQS, and quality thread that you can't get in the big box stores.
ReplyDeleteThe notions I buy most often from my LQS are...thread & Pigma pens. I have also bought bobbins (since I bought my Janome there) & those Thangles for HSTs.
ReplyDeleteWhoop whoop!! Keep on keepin'on! The shop is going to be perfect! I go to quilt shops for inspiration as well as better fabrics.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I have not yet been to a quilt shop, as I am a beginner at this! I will find out where my LQS is & go!
ReplyDeleteI love my local quilt shopS! I am so lucky that there are 7 shops within 30 miles of me! I usually shop for templates or patterns at the LQS. I like to shop locally for the economy so also get most of my fabrics from them. If I can't find what I am looking for, I will order on-line. Does taking classes count as a notion? I do those to :) I don't shop at JoAnns very often unless I have a great coupon. Congrats on your anniversary!!!! Thanks for another great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI go for patterns and thread.
ReplyDeleteI try to buy something from my LQS that is more of a treat for me: a new book, a sewline glue stick pen, or a special cutting template.
ReplyDeleteI go to my LQS for thread, specialty rulers or anything that I can't find at the local fabric store. I looked for Ackfeld hangers once, but no luck. Sometimes I just have to shop online.
ReplyDeleteThe items I buy most, except for fabric and batting, I buy machine quilting needles, thread.. and rotary blades...
ReplyDeleteGenerally rulers, templates, replacement cutter blades and thread.
ReplyDeleteI go to my quilt shop for the big curved safety pins for pin-basting, variegated thread, and batting.
ReplyDeleteourbusylittlebunch(at)hotmail(dot)com
Congrats!!! I'm in your area, so I'm so excited for your shop. In terms of notions, I love being able to get patterns, especially the brands that Joann's doesn't have (Oliver + s, etc). I also look for the better thread, interesting ribbons, marking pens (like sewline). I also think it's hard to find interesting buttons, so I always check out the supply when at a LQS. This isn't quite your question, but I also loved the classes that some of the other shops (now closed) used to offer. I'd always buy all of my supplies from the shop for the class.
ReplyDeleteI go for thread - especially special ones. And also batting for any quilt I'm quilting myself. Congratulations on 3 years and 600+ posts!!
ReplyDeleteYou 're probably sick of hearing this.....NOT....;)...but I'll say it again anyway. Congratulations on 600 posts and 3 yrs. Wow!
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize how really lovely this fabric is. It's really gorgeous.
It seems our LQS doesn't really have notions cause so many people use J. I like to get thread though!
ReplyDeleteI go to my lqs for interfacing, pins, wadding, cutting boards, rulers, and just about anything quilting related that I need right this moment because all life will end if I can't get on with it sort of projects, rather than being patient and waiting for an online delivery. Fabric I buy almost exclusively online though.
ReplyDeleteI buy buttons and laces from my LQS. Congrats on a great milestone!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I technically don't have a lqs but when I used to I went there to match threads or fabric or if I was looking for something special like shiny silver buttons for a softie. I bought both my serger and sewing machine from my lqs and loved the personal service and knowledge that the staff shared with me :)
ReplyDeleteI always buy thread, and buttons etc from an actual shop as its so much easier to match in person.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, we only have one tiny quilt shop here which doesn't have a lot of notions but no Joanns. I do buy my rulers from my quilt shop (even though I only buy one every two years), my rotary cutter blades and the occasional bag supply.
ReplyDeleteAnd zippers by the meter! That's something I love!
I go to the LQS mainly for thread and machine accessories. Also to look at all the beautiful finished quilts on display.
ReplyDeleteI mostly buy online but love looking at fabrics on the bolt and putting fabrics together by seeing them in real life, which is when I make a special trip to my LQS.
ReplyDeleteI am a nut for thread! That's my go to product, always... embroidery floss is like a staple for me. I am drawn to all the beautiful colors and blends. I know I'm an addict...and I will admit it!!! Be especially blessed, Kathy
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!! I go to my LQS mainly to get zippers, thread and needles. Most of my fabric are purchased online as the selection is better than those at the LQS.
ReplyDeleteI go to my LQS for vliesofix and buttons.
ReplyDeleteInterfacing & Schmetz machine needles! Seems I tend to run out during a project and don't wan't to wait for shipping. We don't have a nearby Joanne's and the big craft stores don't carry them. Congrats on the post and the store!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, 600 is amazing! I don't have a quilt store near me only Joanns, but when I do get to one I stock up on good thread, marking pens and quality fabric. Good luck the whole idea is pretty exciting.
ReplyDeleteWe have Hancock and Hobby Lobby, and I go there for interfacing and odd notions like grommets or magnetic snaps. I do the majority of my fabric shopping on-line, as our two LQS are small and don't carry alot. Thanks for the give away!
ReplyDeleteI buy most of my stuff online as I have no LQS but when I get to one back home I buy thread! Happy anniversary!
ReplyDeleteI get accessories for my machine from my LQS, like new feet....in need of the 1/4" now, so a trip is coming! :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your milestones and thanks for the lovely giveaway....would be absolutely delighted to win these gorgeous fabrics!
Wow 300, congratulations! So happy for you brick n mortar! LQS - one thing my friend does is buy (?) and sell fabric swatches for $6 a pound out of the back room. Comes in great big boxes some are new lines some are old but when the boxes come in 100's of women come in to dig through them. Tidy little business in itself. I love classes that are free you just pay for the materials, that is how I learned to sew. Patterns are great from the internet designers! I hope you like my ideas, I would be thrilled to win.
ReplyDeletedont have many coupons in Oz, so i like my favourite quilt shop for any new gadgets for sewing.. this week, i bought light for the sewing maching, some xmas decorations( for family gifts) that werent fabric!! i like the choice of everything , plus i like the samples of quilts etc on the wall, that give me ideas of what i may make next.. the more the better.. big and small projects
ReplyDeletehere inOz, not many coupons, so i use my local quilt store, my favourite, for getting new gadgets, like my new machine light i just got PLUS some non quilt things.. like some metal xmas decorations.. for variety... would like to see lots of samples on the walls of things to consider making.. both big and small projects.. for inspiration.. lots of colour around, lots of nook and crannies.. not too stuctured, but a clear, crips space that looks homely and not like a business. if that makes sense!!
ReplyDeleteI buy fabric from my LQS. I tend to get my rulers and cutting tools from JoAnns with the coupons.
ReplyDeleteI buy fabric, thread, batting and gadgets from the LQS. For example, my most recent purchase was a binding tape maker. I don't buy anything from Jo-Anne's since we don't have them here in Canada.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 600 posts, by the way. That's a labour of love and a worthwhile contribution to the community.
Congratulations Julie on 600 posts! When I get a chance to step into a quilt shop (I have to travel quite a distance), I head for the gadgets (after I look at the fabric of course). I love the oodles of measuring devices we quilters have at our disposal. :)
ReplyDeleteBatting if it's a kind I can't get anywhere else but LQS; thanks for chance! (EMAIL: marshudson at comcast dot net)
ReplyDeleteQuilting thread, nice fixtures for bags, patterns, marking tools for applique, specialty rulers, batting for quilts.
ReplyDeleteI get rotary blades. Thank and congrats!!!
ReplyDeleteThe notions I tend to buy specifically from the quilt shop are books and patterns, specific rulers (in Canada our Fabriclands don't tend to carry a whole bunch), and the interfacings I need to make bags.
ReplyDeleteI go to Joann's for all kinds of things... fabric, interfacing, thread, ribbon and similar embellishments, etc. It's the only fabric store in my area, though I'm not always thrilled with the selection... or the service. Thanks for the generous giveaway and congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI go to my LQS for ideas! Also patterns, fabric and thread.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a LQS near me, but when I'm visiting my sister's town, I'll pick up special fabrics at her LQS. I tend to get my notions from Joanns or online.
ReplyDeleteMy local sewing shop is so useful for thread, ribbon, buttons, bobbins for my machine and I usually end up buying somethign fabricy too!
ReplyDeletecongrats on all your blog success!
I go to my LQS for inspiration and fabric. They are such a friendly bunch it isn't unusual to see people stop in with coffee and the intention to visit.
ReplyDeleteHappy 600th blog post...it is fun stopping in here for inspiration and a visit too!
I mainly just buy fabric and thread from my LQS/online. I get everything else pretty much from Joann. Happy 600th post!
ReplyDeleteFrom the big J store, I buy sewing machine needles and rotary blades, when I have one of those 50% of coupons. I buy more specific items from the LQS, a specific fabric I'm looking for, special applique scissors, or something like that. Thanks for the giveaway and congrats!
ReplyDeleteI buy online from your shop and other small shops, and my LQS. Congrats on 600 posts and 3 Years! Thanks for the chance to win! :)
ReplyDeleteI don't really have anything especially local (not near enough to visit anyway), being in the UK, but I like buying fabric from online quilting shops, and things like pins and masking tape from my local decent department store which has a good habadashery department.
ReplyDeleteRulers...especially the Creative Grid specialty rulers...love them!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary!

I don't quilt, so I don't shop at quilt shops, but I do go to JoAnn's a couple of times a month (and yes I use their coupons). I sew tote bags, pillows, walker and wheelchair bags for seniors and make totes for children, for my Yahoo group, World of Charity Stitching
ReplyDeleteThanks,

I would say the one thing I buy from LQS and almost NEVER from Jo Ann is fabric. I rarely, almost never, buy quilting fabric there and on occasion I'll buy something else I need for a specific reason. But I buy probably 90% of my notions there. Coupons, people.
ReplyDeleteI go for a number of reasons! I love love love just walking in and browsing but also for higher-end fabrics (M.Miller, Kaufman, etc) and kits. I love picking up a whole kit with pattern, fabric and such. It gives me a challenge :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win!
I don't live in the USA but I go to my local quilt shop for designer stuff: fancy notions, good quality thread such as aurifil and wool batting.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the 600th and the future brick and mortar!!!
Congrats on making a decision and following through. I was jealous of you with the online store, and I'm even more jealous of the retail store. Seriously. I am so happy and proud of you!
ReplyDeleteI try to support my LQS whenever I can. I go there for acrylic rulers, "specialty" stuff like Steady Betty, needles, too!
COngrats on your decision and your longevity, and your super custom bundles, while we're at it!
ReplyDeleteMy LQS is nonexistent where I live, so much so that I wish I could open one, but I'm no expert!
For the last year, I've run into the curtain/scrapbooking/apparel fabric shops looking for: rick rack and trims, pom pom trim, mini and maxi, essex linen, rulers, and any fabric newer than 1996, that doesn¨'t cost a small fortune, and Is printed on register! PS Didn't find much besides a few pom poms, that's why I end up buying online-
bobbins, thread, zippers, ribbon, sewing machine oil

Notions would buy at LQS if prices reasonable and good brands(our LQS is located much closer than JoAnns which offsets gas): thread, straight pins, needles hand and machine, rotary blades, rulers, embroidery floss, thimble-its, quarter inch tape. Congratulations on your 600th post. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI'm a sucker for Fat Quarters and Thread! Congrat's on your Anniversary!

ReplyDeleteI look for good fabrics and speciality rulers. Pins, markers, rotary blades...things like that I get with coupons when I can. Thanks for the chance at your giveaway.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the 3 year blog anniversary and the 600th post!
ReplyDeleteWE don't have a LQS here or a JoAnns' so I shop online for most of the items that I need. But when I do get the chance to visit the quilt shop(which is about an hour away), I love to buy the fabrics that I really like as well as good quality thread, sewing needles, rotary cutter blades, and big boxes of velcro.I also buy laces and ribbon.
Thank you so much for the giveaway.
I get Rotary blades, machine needles, closures for purses and bags at Jo-Ann. I save the LQS for things I can't find at Jo-Ann like Machingers, specialty rulers, patterns.
ReplyDeleteI go to my favorite quilt shop for inspirations, bobbins and machine embroidery supplies.
ReplyDeleteI go to my LQS to find certain notions like, specialty rulers. If they don't have it, they offer to order it for me. And I like to see the latest fabric collections.
ReplyDeleteI go for things like Quilt Patis, those hexagon templates with the hole in the middle that you pop out once you've sewn them together, but no one seems to carry them anymore. I loved them! And my Grandmother's Flower Garden is on hold until I find more. Thanks for the chance for this lovely fabric!
ReplyDeleteJoann's has better choices in zipper colors, but I go to my LQS for more colors in perle cotton and pretty buttons.
ReplyDeleteI go to my LQS to buy my specialty rulers. I am also able to buy rotary cutter blades at a better price than using a coupon so I get those too.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a nearby Joann's....but I normall go to my LQS to check out their random fat quarter selection, remnants, and also trims!! Can't get enough of trims!!
ReplyDeleteI go to my LQS for rotary cutting blades and mats. Hope this helps!
ReplyDeleteRibbons, batting and some fusibles:) sadly we dont have joann or any LQS where I live:(
ReplyDeleteI go to my LQS for English Paper Piecing hexies, because I so appreciate a quilt shop in a town of 2500 people carrying those, and think she should be rewarded for it. At another independent quilt shop in a nearby town, I buy Quiltmania, because she introduced me to this magazine and I'd rather pay her for it than save the 10% Jo-Ann's offers. Now, if Jo-Ann would let us use the 40% off coupons I can't say I'd be as true to the little shop--it would be tempting to save the $$.
ReplyDeleteFor the specialty type fabrics like charm packs that I can't find in my local Big Box stores, and for all the latest sewing gadgets to drool over.
ReplyDeleteI buy fabric I splurge on at my LQS, like Japanese fabric. I also buy sewing feet attachments from a local shop. Otherwise the majority of my shopping is actually done online. I don't frequent Jo-Ann very much anymore.
ReplyDeleteI meant to say congratulations on 600 posts! :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the 600th post! I don't buy anything from Joann's so I've bought pretty much everything from a LQS. Fabric, thread, books, fusible, patterns & zippers. :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteI go to buy thread, Bondaweb/Wonder Under, and batting.
A nice seam ripper, bobbin saver, thread stand, and quality hand sewing needles are all things I have bought at the LQS. Also, specialty rules. Most things really specific to quilting, that they just don't have at Joanns.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on reaching 600! That's a feat ...
ReplyDeleteI go to buy rotary cutters and scales. The first one is available and the second one not. So gives me plenty of opportunity to go looking for them and come home with other goodies !
I go to buy rotary cutters and quilting scales. The former available, the latter not. So given me the opportunity to go multiple times and buy other goodies.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your 600th post !
We don't have a Jo-anne's. In fact, I've never seen on. I can get some quilting supplies (but no fabric) at Michael's (Craft Store for which they provide 50% coupons). I occasionally use the 50% coupon for something big like a ruler or a cutting mat but without that coupon, no way. Too expensive. We have Fabricland stores that are CRAZY expensive unless you buy a membership and always have your membership card handy. So almost all the things I need for quilting including fabric, tools, and notions I get at my LQS (Periwinkle Quilts). I occasionally buy something online - mostly fabric.
ReplyDeleteI'm an Aussie so don't have Joanns but we do have a big fabric giant called spotlight which I think is very similar. I go to quilt shops or online quilt shops for things like rulers, specialist threads, quilting needles and feet for my machine. Great giveaway. Congrats on the new store and 3 years :)
ReplyDeleteI go to the LQS for high quality thread and silk pins.
ReplyDeleteI buy specialty rulers and threads like YLI or Superior.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the three years and 600 I hope you are having a great time celebrating. I go just to look at all the new stuff and to find new designs.
