Sale Ends Sunday

Hello my name is Julie and ...

Friday, February 21, 2014
it has been a while since I sat down to blog just because I wanted to. Weeellll, that isn't completely true. I mean no one makes me do anything I don't want to do. So every time I blog it is because I want to on some level :) And we do have some new fabric in ... but... Do you all mind if I talk about something other than sewing for a minute? I didn't think you would ... at least if I don't make a habit out of it :)

At the beginning of the year I told you what my "Phrase for the year" was... 'cause I couldn't pick just one word. It is "Live What You Love". So the blog has been a little quiet while I worked on doing just that. I had three commitments for sewing up to that point that I still needed to finish. I am down to the last one and it is a small project for someone I love so it isn't a burden. I feel liberated... finally I am going to do a bit of selfish sewing for the first time since I opened the shop... 3 yrs can you believe it? I have also discovered (or rediscovered) a love of knitting. This is my latest obsession newly started:

It is a pattern called Spindleberry and if you are on Ravelry you can get it for free until the end of the month. I adore this pinky red, orangy, purple yarn hehe. It is super soft. The Color is called Sangria and it is made by Abstract Yarns ... it is called Mighty Sock LOL A mix of Superwash Merino and Tencel fibers. It is a little shiny and stretchy and, like I said, soft :)

Here is a picture of the first full size shawl I have made... it still needed another 10 rows or so when I took the picture (but it is finished now) and it is all piled up but I love how squishy it is:

Hmmm wonder what it says that the two yarns out of the (uh hmmm) ton of yarn I have bought this month that I chose to use first are both a shade of red :)

Now on to the usual programming... We do have some new gorgeous fabric in...

Ed Emberley's Picture Pie by Cloud9 I mean really... how could I resist those foxes and raccoons?

And Meadow by Leah Duncan for Art Gallery It is no secret that Leach Duncan is one of my favorite surface designers I love her style. It is hard to choose a favorite but I think it is probably the floral third one down on the left... I need a summer top out of that. Yay selfish sewing!

We have also decided to re-open Gypsy Wife for a second cutting so if you missed out on the first one you can get in on this one.

I hope you have the Loveliest of Weekends! I have a yarn show to go to... oh the obsession :)

Reunion PAR-TAY!

Sunday, February 16, 2014

Well, hello there, my lovelies! This is Molli Sparkles , so fasten your seat belts and consider this an Intrepid Thread blog-jacking.

That's right, I'm shutting 'er down and raising the roof. If you know me and my insatiable fabric ways, you know I love shopping at the Intrepid Thread. Like, seriously, anytime I buy fabric and have it sent to me in Sydney it always comes in a box--sometimes two--because who has time to mess around with envelopes!?

It was one year ago that I walked through the doors of the Intrepid Thread bricks and mortar for the first time. My life would never be the same. You see, at the time, I was a new quilter and an even newer blogger, with not much to show for my time. But once inside that little shop in Milpitas, California my eyes were opened to all of the possibilities that fabric could bring. You can see the mountains of fabric I bought, as well as a full recount of events in this post. On top of all those shenanigans, Julie and team (:::waves at Colleen:::) were incredibly welcoming to my jet-lagged soul, even after I didn't leave for five hours. Yes, I am that customer.

So let's get this cat out of the bag! To celebrate this one year anniversary, I'm coming back to where it all began at the Intrepid Thread. Mmm hmmm. Oh, and y'all know I'm gonna throw a par-tay! This is a one-night only affair, so I expect you to be there. Since Intrepid Thread is not open on Sundays, you can consider this a private party, and you're on the guest list. Leave your sewing machines at home because this is all about gas-bagging and racking up as many frequent flyer points I can on my credit card. (I've gotta get home somehow!) I'm bringing an extra suitcase to hold all of my purchases, and I do hope you'll come and be part of the enabling celebrations!

So let's break it down:
What: A Molli Sparkles & Intrepid Thread Reunion Par-tay!
When: Sunday, February 23rd
Time: 3-6ish
Where: Intrepid Thread, 1709 S. Main St., Milpitas, CA
Why: The fabric needs us.

For the Love of New and Old Friends, A Challenge, and Giveaway.

Hi Everyone,

I am so excited that I actually have something creative to show you today. Back in October at Quilt Market my friends and I were loitering around Vanessa Christenson's booth. Talking about her new adorable patterns and how much we loved her new springy fabric line Color Me Happy. The idea of a challenge was raised when Ms. V gave us each a mini charm pack... because don't we all need new ideas about what to do with those cute little Moda candy packs? Today is our reveal day. Now I would love to say that I had plenty of time and started right away but, of course, I finished it yesterday at 4 PM LOL

It is called "Looking Up" I did a combo of  big stitch hand quilting with Aurifil 12 wt thread in colors that match the fabrics and machine quilting. The arrows are Color Me Happy of course and the background is natural linen from the Mochi Dot collection. I will have a pattern available soon for both the mini (this is 24" square) and a lap quilt size. Color Me Happy Comes out next month but we have some pre-cuts in, including the mini charm packs that we used for our projects. Be sure to hop around to my friends and check out all of the adorable projects.

Can you help with a quilt?

Monday, February 10, 2014
Dear Friends,

There is a child that has been waiting for 6 years to come home to her family. If you have a quilt that you can donate to raffle for this more than worthy cause, please consider doing so. Also if you would like to give $25 to get a chance to win one of the donated quilts you can do that too. There is a link at the end of the post.

Best said in the words of her mother:

Six years is too long for a child to spend without a family. My sweet Diana has been waiting patiently in Kyrgyz orphanages to join my family since we first met in 2008, shortly before Kyrgyzstan placed the first of two moratoriums on intercountry adoptions. But another window is opening. Kyrgyzstan has re-re-started their intercountry adoption program. And I am trying for a third time to bring Diana home, to be her family at last. But it's with great humility that I tell you, Diana and I need your help.
While I have the resouces to pay for her adoption for the third time (home $tudy, do$$ier, agency fee$, documentation and proce$$ing fee$), I will need help covering our travel expenses. I plan to travel with my daughter, Pilar, and stay in Kyrgyzstan for the duration of the finalization process, which will be approximately six to eight weeks if all goes smoothly (big 'if' there). I'm estimating airfare, lodging, local driver and translator services and living expenses to run upwards of--gulp--$10,000.
Because I really don't like asking people for money outright, I've created a fundraiser called Kwyltyng To Kyrgyzstan. For every $25 donated, you will earn a virtual raffle ticket. Winners will be selected at random, with gorgeous kwlyts (quilts), handmade by my friends and me, as prizes. You can watch the kwylts--and our family--take shape on the Kwyltyng To Kyrgyzstan Facebook page.

Oops I only blogged once last week. I thought about it everyday but it was super busy in the shop and I just never got a chance. We had a ton of new fabric come in... again. I also taught a class.

Hi Everyone,

I just had to show you Wee Wander... I am so excited about it. I have been just waiting and waiting for it to get here:

It is so pretty!

We also stocked Lucky Penny by Alison Glass and have it at 20% off retail for you:

It is so rich and yummy. We carry Alison's quilt patterns too and this is one of my favorite made with this collection:

Here is the version made by one of my employees, Maxine, for the shop out of Helen's Garden:

We also got in this super stash building collection called Citrus

It it is a big collection... this is just a few of them.

As you can see we had a fabric avalanche with over 70 bolts coming in one day...

We also bought a few of the sweet low volume prints from Art Gallery's Littlest collection
