Pixie Summer Home Winner

Friday, July 29, 2016
Well, I wrote this post on Tuesday but never published it. I came to write another post and noticed this in big red letters DRAFT Oops... I am sorry for making you all wait.

Hey Everyone,

Please forgive me for being a bit late... with the sale and everything I got a bit behind. I wanted to announce the winner of the comment prize from my blog. I had 38 comments which I put into the random number generator and it picked number 11 which was from my first post and was this:

BillieBee: Alright! I did do mine right......Phew!

BillieBee will be receiving this:

I bet you guys are thinking .... Where did that come from?!!!  Don't worry I haven't lost my mind. I still love Modern and will be selling only Modern (mostly). This is just a little anomaly. That is why I am calling it "And Now For Something Completely Different" ... don't ask me why but everything Monty Python has been on my mind this week. And, yes, you can buy the bundle here the bottom fabric is ticking that is super soft and would make great bags so I made the piece bigger in the bundles. They are fq bundles with 1/2 yds of ticking and half yard bundles with 1 yd pieces of ticking.

Big huge Congratulations to the Grand Prize Winner of the Linky Party Prizes my friend Jamie aka BeACraftyGirl I am sending you a kit for Frances Firefly made my way :)

You will hear from me again soon :) Bye for now.

Pixie Summer Home QAL Installment Tree

Wednesday, July 20, 2016
Hi Everyone,

See what I did there? This is indeed the third post with a pattern and the pattern is for Trees. I am so silly... have to have a little pun. I get that from my DH. Okay....

This is our official Midway point. So there is a linky party on Brooke's blog go there to put in your link. Why? Because you can win a great big prize. Brooke, Sally, and I are all contributing to one prize for anyone that has left a link on any of the PSHQAL linkies to this point. One peron will get a package from each of us with lovely sewing goodies. Also if you have left comments on any of the blog posts you will be entered to win a prize from whomever you left the comment for.... all kinds of goodness going around here.

This is our new block... I love it and I especially love that Raindrop fabric. You can get the PDF here
for the pattern and this is the foundation pattern for the right side trees.

The Tree Block

Pixie Summer Home Quilt Along
Two Trees Block
By Julie Dueck of The Intrepid Thread

Cutting:
Background Fabric:
6 - 2 ½” squares
4 – 2” by 3 ½” rectangles
2 – 1” by 9 ½” rectangles
6 – Scraps for paper piecing(if you want to cut these 3 ½” squares should work)

Right Side Tree Fabric:
1 – 2” by 4 ½” rectangle (top)
1 – 2 ½” by 4 ½” rectangle (center)
1 – 3” by 4 ½” rectangle

Left Side Tree Fabric:
3 – 2 ½” by 4 ½” Rectangles
Trunk Fabric:
2 – 1 ½”” by 3 ½” rectangles
**All seams are ¼ inch unless otherwise specified.
Assembly:
1. With a pencil mark the back of the 2 ½” squares of background fabric with a diagonal line.

2. Place one marked square on the left side of one of the left tree fabric rectangles, right sides together, matching corners, and sew on the line as shown.

Trim the seam and press the corner out, I press toward the tree but if you prefer to press open that is fine.

3. Repeat step two with the other side of the rectangle.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 twice to create the second and third flying geese to make up the left side tree.

5. Sew the three tree pieces together.

5. Sew the trunk fabric piece, 1 ½” by 3 ½”, between the background pieces, 2” by 3 ½”, as shown.

6. Repeat step 5 to make the second tree trunk.

7. Using the paper piecing foundations provided, piece the right side tree. Please refer to the paper piecing tutorial here or search Youtube for a tutorial. Alternately you could improv the three tree pieces. Just make sure that they measure 2” by 4 ½”, 2 ½” by 4 ½”, and 3” by 4 ½” unfinished.

8. Sew the three foundation pieced tree sections together.

9. Sew the trunks to the bottom of the tree sections.

10. Sew the 1” by 9 ½” rectangles to the right side of each tree. Then sew the trees together.

Ta Da! All Done.
If you want to you can use each of the trees separately it would be cute to put them between your house blocks. And of course you can mix up which side is the right and left.

Don't forget to tag #pixiesummerhomeqal on IG when you get them done... we want to see them :)

Pixie Summer Home QAL House 2

Wednesday, July 6, 2016
Hi Everyone!
Welcome to the second post in the Pixie Summer Home Quilt Along

Are you ready to get started on your next house style? If you haven't started on the first houses yet and you downloaded the pattern on the first day. There was a small error in the cutting directions so you should re-download it here. My diagram was right but one of the cut sizes added a 1/2 inch in the written directions. Don't forget to add your link to the linky party at the end of the post to be entered in our big drawing. Visit Brooke and Sally today to see their progress on their quilts as well. We are so excited to see what you all are working on :)

On to the next set of directions...

Here is a link you can download the PDF for printing

Pixie Summer Home Quilt Along

The Big House on the Block

Cutting:
Background Fabric:
2 - 2 ½” by 4” Rectangles

Roof Fabric:
1 – 3 ½” by 9 ½” Rectangle
1 – 1 ½” by 9 ½” Rectangle

House Fabric:
2 – 1 ½” by 3 ½” Rectangles
2 – 1 ½” by 3” Rectangles
1 – 2 ½” by 3 ½” rectangle
2 – 2 ½” by 4 ¼” Rectangles

Door and Window Fabric
2 – 2 ½” by 3” Rectangles
1 – 2 by 2 ½” Rectangle

**All seams are ¼ inch unless otherwise specified.

Assembly:
1. On the top of the roof fabric make a mark 1" from each edge. Line up the edge of one background piece and the bottom corner of the roof fabric with RST. It should hang over the top and the bottom. Just make sure it is about ¼” over the top and leave the largest portion hanging over the bottom.
2. Sew 1/4" seam along the edge of the background fabric. Repeat steps one and two in the opposite side.

You will have this when you are done:

3. Using your roof rectangle as a guide straighten the top and bottom edges.

4. Square up to 9 1/2" by 3 1/2" leaving at least 1/4" of background past the bottom edge of the roof. (this might come out to be a little bigger than 1/4" depending on the accuracy of your 1/4" seam)

Now that the hard part is out of the way (I know it wasn’t that hard) …

5. Sew the two 1 ½” by 3” rectangles of house fabric to the top of the 2 ½” by 3” rectangles of Door/Window fabric.

6. Sew the top floor of the house together in this order:
1 ½” by 3 ½” rectangle of house fabric – Window unit – 2 ½” by 3 ½” rectangle of house fabric – Window unit - 1 ½” by 3 ½” rectangle of house fabric

7. Sew the bottom floor together in this order:
2 ½” by 4 ¼” rectangle of house fabric – 2” by 2 ½” rectangle of Door/Window Fabric - 2 ½” by 4 ¼” rectangle of house fabric

8. Sew the rows together in this order: Roof unit, Second Floor unit, 1 ½” by 9 ½” rectangle of roof fabric, Bottom Floor unit.

And you’re done!

Sorry that this will slow up shipping for some of you. I had a very ugly situation with a customer last sale and I want to avoid that happening again. We are doing a full inventory this week so that everything will be as close to perfect when we start as we can make it but others can still check out with things before you do. Everyone likes a good deal after all. Please be certain to leave an email where I can contact you and double check the spelling on it as well.
