Folk Flowers Kits

Hey Everyone,

I put together kits of Mod Corsage for both the super giant Queen size version of Folk Flowers like in the one in the picture with Anna Maria below (don't forget you need to get the class here for the pattern) and for a more modest lap size (51" by 68") as represented here:

The Kit for the Lap size will include 14 quarter yards, all of the background fabrics, and binding fabric. My directions for proper side triangles and putting the quilt together will also be included as the class just teaches the block.

And here is the queen size which is 85" by 102"

Sew Many Things...

Hey Everyone,

I have been so busy with the sales each week now that I am working alone (except on Fridays and note writing by my child) that I haven't had a chance to post much here. In between sales I ran frantically to Quilt Market and spent the entire time talking to my friends rather than looking at products :) It was kind of wonderful. I got to reconnect with people and really get to know some of them better. They are now less casual acquaintances and more real friends. One of whom is Sandi of CraftyPlanner fame, really if you don't know her you should. I stole err borrowed this photo from her because I got in too late to make it to Anna Maria Horner's Schoolhouse at Market:

Well, the minute I re-posted this picture everyone told me how much they loved this quilt. Low and behold the day before I went to Market I had become an affiliate with Creativebug which is where you can find the pattern and class for making the Folk Flower Block that this quilt is made from as well as many other classes by Anna Maria.... "Hmmm" says I "Why not make some bundles/kits up for making this quilt?"  So with a little help from a friend (more on that later) I got some of the background fabrics and went to work on some samples.

Here are the blocks I made this weekend.

I made 10 because they will frame some other blocks in a secret project I am working on. I hope to show you that by the end of the week. It was really fun and I was really motivated :)

The background fabrics will be in the shop on Monday the 6th and I will have kits available afterwards for both a lap size and the huge queenish size that is in the picture above. Also if you just want the fabrics I made the flowers from they are Mod Corsage which we have available in yardage and bundles here.

Fantastic Fabric Friday and a Giveaway

Hey Everyone!

I have so been looking forward to this first collection of fabric... Honor Roll by Anna Maria Horner. As always the collection of colors and scale are perfect. AMH never disappoints. The colors are really saturated and mouth watering and it has birds... lots of birds.

Then there is Katy Jones' Priory Square. I adore her low volume prints and that gorgeous aqua flower.

I am using the knit version:

For a light weight cardigan. It will go great over my Magenta camisole.

More new clothes for Quilt Market

Hey Everyone,

The truth is I am always too hot at the convention center. So sleeveless tops work best for me... since I designed this blouse for summer  it is pretty much all I have been wearing... I made 5 versions in rayon  and voile and have been wearing them every day. It is comfortable and cute and all I want to wear anymore. I decided why not make a couple new ones for Market?

This is the Pretty Potent Rayon Version (my new favorite)

I have had the fabric cut for this next one since the week it came in and I finally did it... the Emmy Grace Voile version

I rediscovered my rolled hem foot and used it for these two blouses. I love the effect on the light fabric. It also made hemming the slinky voile so much easier. IF I had a choice I would wear that FreeSpirit Rayon every day and I have to say that I have made 5 blouses with voile in the last 4 months but this is the first one with Art Gallery voile (just coincidence) it is my favorite of all of the Voiles that I have used. It is much more drapey and comfortable to wear that the others I have used to this point.

Sunday Download

Oh my goodness.... we have gotten a TON of fabric lately.... then I was buried under Cotton & Steel and couldn't share anything with you. So be prepared for tons of pictures :) Also I actually sewed for an hour last Sunday so I can show you my Reversible Box Tote.

This is a free pattern at Very Shannon if you haven't seen it yet. Super easy to make and comes out adorable. I love the reverse side just as much.

We have Arcadia by Sarah Watson it is organic from Cloud9.... isn't it pretty!

We have received Rayon, Knit, Flannel, and Voile from Anna Maria's Pretty Potent collection... you can find them in their own categories and at the bottom of the Pretty Potent page

This Rayon is my favorite!!

We have Cinderberry Stitches new Butterfly Dance... I love Natalie's adorable Fairies there are tiny adorable bugs and bugs under magnifying glasses... so whimsical.

We got Michael Miller's new Dim Dots in a bunch of rainbow colors I just love these...

We had a barrage of Holiday collections come in:

These super fun Mid-Century Holiday prints... Santa and reindeer in swim trunks...

Sugar Rush by Josephine Kimberling looks like Candy Land

And this is my personal favorite it is called Christmas Time but it is the cutest Gnomes and their homes... honestly I can't get enough of it. It is by Alexander Henry.

I personally don't think that it needs to be Christmas either... it has snow but that doesn't make it Christmas... just saying :)

Last but not least we got Gleeful by Sew Caroline. Super bright fun fabric. We also got som knit form this collection... as a matter of fact... check out all of the gorgeous knits we have.

We have added a bunch of voile and lawn too... including the Cotton & Steel Lawn

So how is that for overload? We have tons of new colors of Kona Cotton in and some Michael Miller Cotton Couture. We actually had to put in a whole new wall of shelves to house it all...

Friday Fun Day and the Giveaway

Hi Everyone,


I am so excited about the shop right now. I feel like I am jumping out of my skin. We are adding new and interesting items and changing things up and you will definitely want to be along for the ride. One of the things I am excited about is American Made Brand Solids. They will be coming to the shop in early June.

 

These solids are grown, spun, woven and dyed right here in the US. They have a really nice hand comparable to Bella Solids if you are wondering about that. We will also be promoting the challenge that they will be starting this summer. We will offer a bunch of bundles to help get you started. If you want to learn more about the brand here is their story.

We are sending out a newsletter on Monday that you won't want to miss. We will be talking about all of the awesome new stuff coming to the shop this Summer and Fall. You will also want to be following along on Facebook and Instagram next week because we will be posting tons of photos from International Quilt Market. New stuff in the shop ....

I can't believe I leave for Market in a week. I have been sewing for myself. I don't do that normally but since Sara from SewSweetness offered some lovely advance yardage of one of her prints from Jungle Avenue how could I resist.

But really... let's look at the pretty fabric pictures :)

Pretty Potent by Anna Maria Horner is here. I love it more than any of her other collections... LouLouthi has been knocked off it's top spot for me... The colors in this collection are so rich and honestly the printing is so perfect... they are just really well done... beautiful!

Denyse Schmidt's Modern Solids Boxes came yesterday they are gorgeous! We only have 4 left so get them while you can.

We also got this adorable children's collection called Dalmatian Rescue it is the latest collection from Northcott that benefits Quilts For Kids. I love to have part of the money we spend go to charity. This would make a super easy quilt just a panel (they are a yard by 44") and 1 1/4 yds of the border stripe, and 1/3rd yard of one of the prints for cornerstones. About six or eight seams and you have a nice size kids quilt... just saying...there are little medallions on the panel that say "Proud to be a Firefighter"

 

We also got in these amazing line drawings and blueprint fabrics from two collections by Windham called Fly Boy and Sail Away. They are line drawings of airplanes and helicopters and blueprints of ships. I decided to make some fun male centric bundles out of them... of course girls can like them too :)

This one I called Oh Man! It is charcoal, black, and white.

 

And this one I call For the Boys.  In blue and grey... the picture came out really blue for some reason that third fabric down is actually white with a grey blue propeller print.

So here is a sneak peek of what I have been sewing...

You might remember in one of my last posts I said I was making a skirt out of a print from NouvElle... well I decided to make a dress instead... I used Icy Mint Pure Elements as my muslin for the top I am making from Sara's fabric and decided to cut it up to make the top of this dress with the large floral from NouvElle as the skirt... here it is nearly done.

They match perfectly.

And ... here is Sara's fabric next to my sewing machine all washed and ready to go...hehe

Since I drafted the pattern and made the test muslin I feel like I am done even though I haven't started. That is going to be today. Should only take a few hours to make it.

And of course a shot of where I am now on the Aviatrix Medallion... slightly stalled with the clothes making taking up my time.

This was taken in the middle of the night so excuse the poor light quality. I am so in love with the True Colors from Anna Maria Horner that I used for this. I want to make a few million quilts with them. We will have a little tutorial on Friday along with  a giveaway so stay tuned.
