Hi Everyone,
I am not really copping out. I am heading to a retreat though. Oh you have no idea how much I need this break. I get to spend time with bunches of my favorite people like Little Bluebell, TraceyJay Quilts, Let's Eat Grandpa, Mermaid Sews, and some friends that don't have blogs :)... etc... can't wait. So the second tutorial I am doing for you will be a little late... like maybe next week :) I think you will forgive me though because instead am going to give something away and give you a coupon code to use ... we have over 900 fabrics in our sale section (I just put a bunch of new stuff there...947 to be exact) and you can use this coupon 800POSTS for an extra 10% off everything in your cart.
I just got notice that Angela Walter's collection Legacy will be here on Wednesday so how about a fat quarter bundle of one of the colorways (10) as a giveaway?
All you have to do is a leave a comment here telling me about your favorite retreat or your favorite sewing time with friends. I will pick a winner next Saturday morning 9/28
Have a super awesome weekend! Keep an eye on instagram I will be showing what is happening with me this weekend.

I don't get sewing time with friends. I guess I'm not that old yet, or maybe it's just my kids who aren't that old yet. I do get to go to a fiber meeting once a month, sometimes, but that's a totally different hobby!
ReplyDeleteeach fall my mom comes to visit for a quilt weekend and we have a great time working on projects and fabric shopping and quilty talk all day long! always a blast.
ReplyDeleteI love going to retreats! There is a local teacher named Linda Ballard that puts together some great ones. Have lots of fun this weekend! Can't wait to see what you get done! =)
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a retreat, but my quilt group gets together once a month to make charity quilts. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI've done neither! Maybe someday...
ReplyDeleteSo far I have not attended any retreats but it sure is on my to do list. I attend a monthly group at our local quilt shop where we get inspired for a project. Also get together and do hand sewing over coffee regularly...
ReplyDeleteI get to sew with my MIL every now and then but mostly I'm just squeezing in time to sew between all my kiddos needs!
ReplyDeleteHmmm. I haven't done a lot of retreats but I don't think I'll ever top the one with Cindy Needham, she is amazing. Loved the time I've spent at Markets, they are like retreats to me except I can't sew then. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy my sewing time with my daughter, which is very limited.
ReplyDeleteI've only been on one sewing retreat and I didn't really know anyone there. I enjoyed the classes and loved the hours of sewing time. It would be more fun to go with friends!
ReplyDeletetstanulis@mac.com
I've never gone to a retreat, although I hope to someday. I have gone to several big quilt shows with friends. Sometimes we stay a few days and take classes as well as seeing the show and doing lots of fabric shopping. That is super fun!
ReplyDeleteYummy fabric! My favorite retreats have been with my quilting girlfriends to my sister's farm in upstate Pennsylvania. 105 acres of gorgeous, room to set up all our machines plus multiple ironing and cutting stations. The food is always fabulous and the company is the best. We even get a lot of sewing done!
ReplyDeleteI've never been on a retreat, don't have friends that sew. :( My life sucks. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a retreat! Sniffle. But I did have a lot of fun working with a designer and a bunch of other quilters for a market booth!
ReplyDeleteLiving in Brooklyn NY , the hubba and I love to take the kids to woods for a hiking , relaxation, exploring retreat in the Poconos PA from time to time. The time spent with family and nature always inspires and kickstarts my creativity for sewing my zany dolls! : )

In college my best friend and I would stay up late sewing purses. I miss her~
ReplyDeleteI plan a winter retreat in JAN FOR ABOUT 30 of my quilty friends. We have a great view of Lake Michigan and quilt all weekend long. Best part is that my daughter also comes and we talk & quilt all weekend long.
ReplyDeleteI love to go the our guild's annual 4 day retreat. It's a great way to get to know your fellow quilters. But I also really enjoy my time with my quilt bee friends during our weekly bee gathering.
ReplyDeleteRetreats always look so fun. Alas I am a lone sewer. I do fondly remember when my Nana and I used to sew together when I was a child. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteFor the past four years, I have been lucky enough to retreat with people I only met through blogging! So fun.
ReplyDeleteOnce a month I get together with 5 women to sew, gossip and eat. We meet at a different persons house each month and have a wonderful time. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI have never been to a retreat. But I have a friend who I do sewing days, or fabric shopping days with a lot. She brings her two cute little girls and we make it a girls day!
ReplyDeleteAbout twice a year I get together with my BFF who lives over 1000 miles away. We love to sew together. It's a time of renewing our friendship and working on a fun project.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful fabrics!I sew with friends once a week from Octubre to May and love that day.We try to join every Tuesday. Thanks
ReplyDeleteMy mom spent a long weekend at my house and we worked together to make curtains for my new place. She was also helping teach me sewing tips and tricks along the way!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a super time! I went to my first retreat this (soon past) summer, the Fat Quarterly Retreat in London. I had a blast meeting people and taking classes. Kinda hard to take it all in, but next year I'll be ready :)
ReplyDeleteHave a group of 12 friends who get together every month and try something new. Everyone works together and we donate all we make to local organizations.
ReplyDeleteI don't really have any other friends that sew, but I love getting together with friends on the deck over a glass of wine.
ReplyDeleteThere is a quilt shop near me that I can go to certain days of the week to just sit and sew with my friends there. I learn so much from them. It's fun getting together with people who have the same interests as me. I have never gotten to go to a retreat. It is on my bucket list though. :) Thank you so much for having this giveaway!!!
ReplyDeletesewing time with friends..seems like a deam come true..but I have little ones so I don't get to do that yet, however at the beginning of the year our congregation needed some quick sewing done for an event we were holding and any and everyone with a sewing machine showed up to help..they opened up the concession stands and there was drinks, food, and lots of sewing going on. It was a blast and both my mom and MIL were there so they took the kiddos while I got to stitch away with some friends.
ReplyDeleteI do a weekly Sit and Sew with friends, but also love our Shop Hop days and going to quilt shows. Next week my QBFF and I are going to Quilters Take Manhattan! Whoohoo!
ReplyDeleteUntil just recently, I had two friends that would sew with me once a week. We had so much fun challenging each other with all kinds of projects. We always helped each other with whatever we were doing. We also shared recipes and cooked for each other for that day! They were both GREAT! cooks. I will miss that!
ReplyDeleteHave a blast Julie and say hi to everyone for me - wish iI was going. I love love retreats and am hoping to attend more. SBAMQG in November and Heather Ross in Palm Springs in January will tie me over for a bit.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm not old enough to go on a retreat. I still have young kids. I look forward to the day where I can get away and sew with friends. Have fun on your retreat!
ReplyDeleteI was supposed to go on my first retreat last spring, but pregnancy complications prevented me from going. Im hoping to make it this year.
ReplyDeleteI don't sew with friends since most of them aren't interested in sewing! I hope you have a wonderful time!
ReplyDeleteI have never been to a retreat. But last month we had the PNWMQG Meetup here in Portland. And it was a wonderful time. So much so that I signed up for the MQG Sew Down in Portland this coming February. I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI don't have any local sewing friends. But occasionally my sister will pop in to sew... But those visits are far and few I between. As she works full time. I have kids at home. Thanks for the chance to enter...
ReplyDeleteone of my friends and I get together to sew once in awhile, though I love the group sewing when a bunch of us sew for pregnancy care centres!
ReplyDeletei'm sad, i have never been to a retreat, but worse i have no quiltly friends:( must join a quild.
ReplyDeleteI have never been to a quilt retreat and I have no nearby friends that sew! Good thing I'm fairly content to listen to my machine humming all by my lonesome!
ReplyDeleteMy 4 sisters, my 2 sisters-in-law and my mom get together every month. We all bring handwork of varying kinds and sit and sew and gab. It's so fun and special. Bonds are made and strengthened.
ReplyDeleteNone of my friends sew and I have never been to a retreat. They all joke that I am an old lady for quilting. Love the fabrics, thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteMy best friend and I try to carve out some sewing time every week. A lot of weeks something comes up. But, for my 60th birthday, my bbf is going to take me to a retreat... my first retreat ever! We are going to have a blast! And my birthday is in October so not too long to wait!
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a retreat & I don't really sew with anyone.
ReplyDeleteI have not had the opportunity to quilt with friends, but recently signed up to go to a monthly sewing meeting at the store I bought both my Brother serger and Bernina sewing machine. But what I love to do is exchange ideas with my long time friend in NY via phone calls and FB photos. A always exciting to exchange idead and see projects!! We love it!
ReplyDeleteMy Quilter's guild travels to Gold Beach, Oregon for our annual retreat in February. It's like a three day slumber party for 30 of us, but with SEWING MACHINES!!!
ReplyDeleteI've never been on a sewing/quilting retreat, nor do any of my friends sew or quilt. However, at the beginning of summer, I helped teach a new quilters class with my youngest's preschool teacher. Even though they were doing a very simple quilt (6" squares), it was fun to help them learn how to use their tools and discuss color values, borders, etc.
ReplyDeleteJulie, you definitely earned a break! I hope you have a great time.
my best friend is also a quilter but she lives 3000 miles away. I have never been to a quilting retreat, but now that I am widowed, have thought it would be fun.
ReplyDeleteI'm signed up for the Bliss Quilt Retreat in Feb 2014, Heber Utah.
ReplyDeleteI'm really excited. It will be my first!
I don't have friends that sew, except bloggy friends. :) I have been on numerous retreats, though. I used to go to a yearly silent retreat and loved it, but now that the kids are grown and gone and I live alone, there is all too much silence in my life. I lead a yearly retreat for some of our crafty volunteers (sewing, knitting and crocheting) who make wonderful things for our hospice -- that's my favorite now!
ReplyDeleteLast Sunday I went to a friends house and giggled, ate and helped her make a pouch for a swap. I did some more on my EPP project and cut some triangles for my Marcelle Medallion quilt - I love gathering together to sew and giggle!! Hope you have fun!!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quilt retreats have been at Lakeside Camp in Berkshires of MA. I miss them since I've moved to the Midwest.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely giveaway!! I've never been to a retreat; but I get together during the fall and winter months with friends to sew and quilt. Once a week 3 of us get together and we either work on a mutual project; or just do something that we want to do for ourselves. And....once a week in the evening; 5 of us get together doing basically the same thing. We spend National Quilting Day together last year making a pillow cover. This year we are make a quilt on Sept. 28th...It is fun to share time with sewing friends.
ReplyDeleteI have never been on retreat, but I enjoy our local quilt guild's monthly meetins. These ladies and men not only have a passion for quilting itself, but sharing it, teaching it, and keeping it's heritage present in the area - many have several very old family quilts passed down.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite retreat is with my friend Sandy. She is the one who taught me to quilt. We head up North to my in-law's cabin and spend the weekend quilting. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI go about 3 times per year to a local one day retreat. Just a day to focus on sewing and not have to worry about who needs what, or preparing meals. There are different friends there each time, so I get to enjoy that too.
ReplyDeleteHad a group of ladies that would get together twice a month. Shared good and bad times together.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had some sewing buddies to get together with! Not many people in my age range that I know who sew, I guess. My favorite retreats were the sorority retreats we all went on in college. Such great memories!!
ReplyDeleteno retreat or group sewing here. I have had the opportunity to attend some quilt shows and this has been loads of fun and eye candy.
ReplyDeleteIt is a dream to one day be able to attend a sewing retreat. I have never done it before, but maybe one day??!! I also only sew alone, I don't have any friends who have the same affection for fabric that I do. Sad, isn't it? But that's why the internet is such a great place... because I feel very connected to a sewing community of 'friends' that I have never met. Have a great day, thanks for sharing with us!
ReplyDeleteI love this fabric! My local quilt shop has Open sew nights on Tuesdays & Thursdays, great time to get together with the girls.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance!

OMG you know I have to have this bundle. It is so ME!!!!
ReplyDeleteI hate to say but I don't have a retreat with sewing friends :( nor do I have friends locally that sew much. Does a retreat by myself count!
Any time I get to spend around quilt people means a lot to me...been busy chasing kids the last few years, so I really appreciate days at quilt shops, shows or time with a small group...talking and making quilts makes me happy!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite retreat was QuiltNebraska 2008. I took an amazing quilt history class AND an amazing hand applique class (Aie Rossman). We lived in dorms on the campus of Chadron State College in western Nebraska. Great fun with friends.
ReplyDeleteAte too much. Bought too much fabric. Fun bus trip both ways, too.
Oh! I have a great group of ladies that I retreat with 3 times a year at a church camp here in the Midwest! There are around 25 or so of us that gather for a three day weekend. Young and old and in between. Good for learning new things and show and tell!
ReplyDeleteLike many other commenters here none of my friends have the same passion for fabric as I do! Would love to go to a retreat one day!
ReplyDeleteI have never been to a retreat and I have no local sewing friends. Thank goodness for blogs and quilt alongs!

ReplyDeleteI unfortunately sew alone, but have hopes that one day my granddaughter will take up the sewing hobby. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteJulie, have a super time and relax. My fav retreat is done by a local quilt shop every other year. A 4 day getaway when I get to finish a bunch of UFO's and perhaps start a new project. Anne in CO
ReplyDeleteI've only been to one retreat and it was in 2013 at Deep Woods near Smithville, Tx. It was a blast and I will go again if it is held again in 2014.
ReplyDeleteThat was my favorite so far, ha ha ha LOL...
I have been to one retreat/class - It was with the Gee's Bend quilters. I had such fun with all the other students and the teachers. Our Gee's Bend teacher's were Mary Ann and China Pettway.
ReplyDeleteI've only been to one retreat and it was The Stash Bash, I had an absolute blast! It was so laid back and everyone was so friendly and welcoming and helpful! I can't wait to go back! Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI've been to 2 sewing retreats now! They're so much fun and so productive! A quilting retreat was opened just 30 minutes away and its a beautiful place to get some sewing done!
ReplyDeleteI'm retired, so my life is a non-stop sewing retreat! Lucky life!
ReplyDeleteI'm retired, so my life is a non-stop sewing retreat! Lucky life!
ReplyDeleteAnytime I get together with my Rogue Quilters is the best time ever. On Sunday we are celebrating one of our Birthdays on the Veranda at the Empress Hotel so it will be awesome!
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a sewing retreat *sniff*. But I do like a good "stitch and bitch" with my friends!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a sewing group at the moment - back when I was in grad school we had a weekly craft night (quilting, knitting, whatever) and I miss it. I sometimes go to knit night at my local yarn shop, but I should look for a sewing group.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any friends that sew, so I sew by myself. Would love to have a friend like that. I did take a class at Joanns once and enjoyed that time with people. Thanks for giving me the chance to win this lovely fabric.
ReplyDeleteNot been to a retreat as of yet but really hoping to VERY soon. I love my sewing time with my Bestie, Shirley. We've been learning to quilt together and are having sew much fun!
ReplyDeleteI had a great retreat a few years ago at Lake Tahoe for a whole week. I got sew much done
ReplyDeleteHave a great time at your retreat.
cannot wait for the new Legacy fabric to come in.
Leona
Enjoy your so deserved break with good friends Julie. I sew with friends every day - well virtually that is :)
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty much a hermit so I don't go out much at all. I just recently had a blast sewing with Chris that loves fabric making In from the Cold pattern and I do hexies and applique with Angie from A quilters Reading Blog.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite "retreat" was the 2 days my dh & 3 sons went camping! Wowzers, I could leave the sewing machine on the kitchen table for 42 hrs ---
ReplyDeleteI need to GO to a retreat. Hmmmm.
And the frosty teal, deep teal, and khaki prints call to me!
i love sewing with friends. It's great, but have never actually made it to a formal retreat yet. It is on my list of things to do, though. Thanks so much for a wonderful giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a retreat and don't have any sewing friends. :( So sad! lol But I do get to take a class every now and then and do Quilt Shop Hops, and those are tons of fun. Have a great time!!
ReplyDeleteI love spending my summer holidays up at my mom's farm. I bring up a quilt project to begin, cut the fabric in her screened in gazebo and sew at night after a lovely walk along the beach! awolk at rogers dot com
ReplyDeleteIn the past I had a group of 4 that would get together every other year and we had such fun. Now we are all scattered but remain close friends.
ReplyDeleteI have to say the BAMQG Christmas party last year. Between the amazing presents and ms. Mermaidsews watching the SEC championship with me on my phone, it was pretty fantastic!
ReplyDeleteWould you believe I have never been on a retreat? The closest I came to it was one day about ten years ago when my guild had a mystery quilt sew-in day. The day was kinda ruined though, when the mystery pattern turned out to be a pattern I taught a beginners quilt class with just six months before! lol
ReplyDeleteMy favorite sewing time with friends has never happened either. My sewing buddies are all online friends!!!
I still like/love fabric though and couldn't resist giving this prize a try to win! Thanks for such a generous give-away!
Sad to say, but I've only ever been to one sewing day. It was 2007 in Evansville, Indiana with a guild I'd only visited once. My first foray into quilting. But it was wonderful. The guild members were so friendly and inviting and I had a great time. Unfortunately, we moved away right after that & I didn't get back to quilting for a year or two later.
ReplyDeleteI haven't sewed along with friends for quite a while as my sewing buddy moved far away! Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI like our charity sew days with BAMQG!
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a retreat or had sewing time with friends. I live out in the boonies. I would love to go on a retreat one day.
ReplyDeleteI love teaching my 21 year old so we sew together! I haven't got to go on a retreat but the stories they tell are fabulous, I'm just jealous.
ReplyDeleteNone of my friends sew! I've never even been to a retreat or anything. That's why I follow a lot of quilting blogs. At least I can have virtual "friends".
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a sewing retreat but I have fond memories of smocking together with other moms when our children were babies and toddlers. Such sweet times!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite retreat happens twice a year, in the spring and fall, with members of Mississippi River Sampler Guild.
ReplyDeletei've never been on a retreat or sewn with friends but I have recently discoveres that there is a local Swiss qulter that holds a biannual retreal in the Frrench Alps and I intend to attend that next Spring, all going well. Thank you so much for the chance to win a beautiful collection of fabrics and I hope you have a wonderfully relaxing and fun retreat.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a sewing retreat, but Years ago my best friend and I would sew together at her kitchen table every chance we got. We made clothes for our kids together. We are both grandmothers now and live way too far apart.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite re'treat' is to spend time with my BFF. My New Year's resolution was to learn to quilt and my BFF, an incredible person & amazing quilter, took the time to teach me with a Valentine's table runner. Since then, I have taken a class and am working on my 8th project. I love the guidance and time we spend together with my new found passion!
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a retreat!!! And the only time I've sewn with a friend is earlier this year when she invited me to her house; we went to a Quilt Festival one day and sewed all day the next! It was sooo fun!
ReplyDeleteYears (and years) ago when i was around nineteen, wife and mother to a three year old, i lived in a rural area where the elderly women would gather weekly for a quilting bee and since i was already quilting that is where me and my daughter would be. I still have such bittersweet memories of those times. My daughter died in my arms at the age of 36. I make charity quilts now but with an income of less than four hundred dollars monthly for disability i cannot afford to buy fabric and other things i need to continue doing this. I am blessed that a few quilters have sent me scraps, fabric and even a few ufos. If it werent for them i could not continue to pay it forward babscorbitt@ gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteI have never been on a retreat but would love to go. I guess I am just apprehensive because I don't know anyone. Have fun and thanks for the chance to win this lovely fabric.
ReplyDeleteShawn
I have never been to a retreat, just the thought of packing up all the stuff and hauling it makes me want to avoid retreats!!! :o

ReplyDeleteMy favorite sewing time recently is our day-long sessions at my church where we are teaching or reteaching tweens to twilights to sew! The project is always a service project for the church, community, or missions.
ReplyDeleteI actually don't get to do retreats or classes. Life is to crazy for everyone else in my family so I'm the anchor at home to keep everything running smoothly. When my daughter and I get to be in the sewing room together though is when I am in heaven. It is so fun to work together on something. She's making her first quilt (at 22 years old! though she's helped me make a bunch that I've made) so when we get to work on that together I love it!
ReplyDeleteLike a few others, I don't get to do retreats or classes, and very few of my friends sew! So anytime I can get a reliable break from my littlies is sewing bliss!
ReplyDeleteLovely giveaway, unfortunately I am the only stitcher for miles around so my stitching time friends are all online.
ReplyDeleteMy quilt group get together two weekends a year for an informal retreat. Love those weekends!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Never been to a retreat, but we had a neighborhood quilting group for a few years. Even when I didn't feel like sewing, I enjoyed getting together with the group.
ReplyDeleteSewing while the family is in the room. 24Tangent@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteSad to say, I have never been on a retreat. However, a LQS does have them, and I may just sign up one of these days! I do my sewing solo! Thanks for a wonderful giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI lived in Amish country Sharpsville Pa. in the 70's. They would gather clothes and material and cut them up and put them in a brown bag. They would then pick each piece out without worrying about matching or what color was next.. They said each color was worthy of the next and that each was worthy of doing their job of keeping someone warm. I have made over 30 quilts this way in my life time. I have to admit I like to match though too.. Ha Ha..
ReplyDeleteApril is my favorite month because I get to spend 4 days doing nothing but visiting and sewing with my BFF (and a few others) in Nebraska. I joined the group in 2008 and I have loved them (& quilting!) ever since. Thanks for the chance to win!

ReplyDeleteHave fun on your retreat! I've never gotten to go to one, but I did attend a sashiko class once, and that was fun! :)
ReplyDeleteI love retreats and sewing nights, but my favorite is me, my room with the door closed, tv, a box of cookies, and my project! I get to enjoy the time and just quietly work on my quilt. VermontPines at aol dot com
ReplyDeleteMy only "retreat " is my beautiful sewing room when no one else is home or sleeping! And, that's enough. Usually!
ReplyDeletesatterfieldfamily st sbcglobal dot net
I don't have any sewing friends :-(
ReplyDeleteI always sew by myself but would love to go on a quilting retreat to hangout with others who love to do what I do.
I don't get together with other quilters anymore because I retired and moved recently. My daughter is nearby and she loves my sewing but she would rather be golfing (golf professional). We both are loving the Legacy fabrics and have a plan for it already. I would like to try a retreat someday soon!
ReplyDeleteI love working on handwork while visiting with friends in the evening.
ReplyDeleteI have never been to a retreat :( but I am part of a quilt group that gets together once a month to make charity quilts. Thanks for the chance to win!

ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous you're going to that retreat with Cori!
ReplyDeleteMy bestie that lives on the east coast and I dream to have our own retreat someday. To meet at a hotel halfway between us in OH and just sew the weekend away and be friends in REAL life instead of virtual via text like every day.
Have a great time!!
I don't know a lot of local friends who sew, so I usually go it alone and get my social fix through blogging. Have fun!

ReplyDeleteI have never been on a retreat but I love it when friends get together and sew while the kids play :)
ReplyDeleteOnly sewing I've done is with my nieces, teaching them to make a pillow and it was so rewarding for them and me!
ReplyDeleteOh have so much fun at your retreat! I always love a bit of sewing time with my mother - she taught me to sew when I was very young and I have very special memories of that time. So I enjoy being able to do it - although only quite occasionally - now!
ReplyDeleteI wish I were in Grass Valley! I have been on one sewing retreat/weekend last year at a fellow guild member's cabin in the Sierra foothills. It snowed! Hope to go this year too -- it's coming up at the end of October.
ReplyDeletenext week its my friends 32nd birthday, and my 27th! We have planned a long weekend getaway of quilting fun!! Im cutting up projects this week so I can take them a long and just quilt and quilt and quilt (intermingled with movie watching and junk eating of course!)
ReplyDeleteJessica
My retreat is nap time or when the husbands take to kids out for the day!
ReplyDeleteI have a quilt bee where we work on anything we want. These ladies have so much experience & knowledge re: quilting-nd they are eager to help. They are also friends who know a lot about other things too. When my son was getting married in Louisville, I got their opinion on several mother-of-the-Groom dresses (little fashion show)plus offered many ideas for the Rehearsal Dinner! Life Savers!
ReplyDeleteHave a fab weekend :o)
ReplyDeleteI've done a number of different retreats - Sewing Summit, FQR (twice) and recently the Stitch Gathering, and they were all special in their own way, and all very different!
Thanks for the chance to win :o)
I attend quilt retreat twice a year hosted by my LQS. We go to a ski resort that is all log cabinish. We have a horse drawn ride in the fall that goes up around the hills. It is awesome.
ReplyDeleteI love getting together once a month at our local quilt shop class.
ReplyDeleteIn January of this year I went on the ultimate blind date with 8 'friends' I met online in a Facebook swap group to a remote area that was equidistant from the people who were travelling the furthest. We stayed in an old monastery. We arrived on one of the hottest days in the summer (47 degree C) and there were no mod cons like air con and warnings of snakes in the grounds. I had the BEST weekend ever, we sewed, we ate, we drank, we laughed and had a ball. I can't WAIT to do it again. And the best bit, I have 8 new friends, 3 of them a little more special than the others, it's as if we belong together! Love my rainbow girls (and Molli) to the moon and back!
ReplyDeleteSeveral years ago I had a neighbor who had at least 3 sewing machines set up at all times! She was great fun to be around, and was always encouraging me to come over and sew and to learn fmq etc! She is the closest thing to a sewing retreat I've ever experienced:)(miss you, Donis!)
ReplyDeleteWow a sewing retreat with friends sounds so fun. Unfortunately I do not have any friends that love to sew. I do love though to go to a cabin by the lake with my husband.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy quilting with my sisters-in-law. This year we're returning to Steamboat Springs, CO, to attend the Rocky Mountain Quilt Adventure hosted by David Taylor.
ReplyDeleteI need to find some IRL sewing friends, but I love trying to keep up with the Tula Pink City Sampler quilt-along!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite sewing time is every 2nd Saturday meeting and Sew Day with our Modern quilt guild. I love how friendly everyone is. They will share supplies, material, scissors, thread, helping you with a problem, help you sandwich a quilt. They are the most wonderful bunch of quilters ever!

ReplyDeleteMy Great Aunt and several friends have been meeting every Wednesday for over 20 years to quilt for charity. I joined them a lot last summer. 4 straight hours of hand quilting and girl talk every week!
ReplyDeleteA group of women meet about once a month a sew pillowcases for charity at a local library. I enjoy the times I spend with them laughing and sewing!
ReplyDeleteI have never been to a retreat before. I snore and I'm worried to bother other people with it! I do love getting together though with my friends for sewing time when we can get it.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to a retreat, but I love to take my machine to my sister's house to sew with her.

I love going on retreats ... usually about 2 - 3 a year! Perfect for feeling productive & finishing up, & of course, starting new projects :) thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteLast fall, I went to my first quilting retreat in Bar Harbor, Maine. Our balconies overlooked the ocean, great food, wonderful company, and 3 days of guilt free quilting!
ReplyDeleteAfter reading all of these comments it sounds like I need to go on a retreat!
ReplyDeleteI had a blast at the StashBash in Atlanta. So waiting for the spring to do it again.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a retreat, but I REALLY want to go sometime! christina112358 at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteA group of us quilt/do hand work one evening a month, and a couple times a year we have a quilt retreat in someone's home for 2-3 days. We get lots of sewing time and lots of yummy food!! I also go to a quilt retreat with a couple friends and my daughter at a wonderful church camp once a year. It's on a beautiful lake and the food is great!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite get away time is when three quilting buddies and myself have a sew day at one of our houses. We try to do a sew day once a month and a road trip to a quilt shop once a month. There's nothing better than being with BFF's especially if they're quilty BFF's.
ReplyDeleteI love sew-in days at my guild: great people, great food - and a day full of uninterrupted sewing time.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
We have a sewing/craft night once a month at my house, my favorite night!
ReplyDeleteI'm just beginning to have actual friend sewing time. I re-connected with a few girls from high school (I graduated in 1975) and it's mostly because of sewing! We grew up on Long Island New York and all live in Metro Atlanta. Tomorrow we're meeting at the Quilt Show and are already planning sewing outings. How cool is that!!
ReplyDeleteAny time spent sewing with friends is a favorite. I loved QuiltCon and hope to get a ticket to attend SewSouth. Hope you have a great time.
ReplyDeleteI have two friends that live in Chicago and one in North Carolina. (I am in Missouri.) Every couple of years we get together usually in Chicago, but one year we went to Paducah for the quilt show. When we are in Chicago, we make charity quilts and usually take in a quilt show. Oh, and we SHOP too! :) Next year we are headed to NC for our "Calgon" time!

Every other year, my best friend and I attend the Smocking Arts Guild of America Convention. It is the best time for me. My friend now lives 10 hours from me, so the convention gives me the best of both worlds....sewing and time with her!
ReplyDeleteI have never been to a retreat. I love sewing but live way out in the country. My sister and I get on the phone and do quilts together.
ReplyDeleteThe BEST retreat I've ever gone to was the one Emily of Crazy Old Ladies put on in a wonderful Hobble Creek resort cabin this past February. It was well worth the blizzards I had to drive through over the Rockies to attend. Made some good friends, got some terrific work done on my Dear Jane blocks. . . fabulous altogether :)
ReplyDeleteI've only been to one retreat, but hope to get to our guild retreat next year.
ReplyDeleteI have never been on a retreat, but I treasure my quiet Monday mornings when my sweetheart goes off to do his public radio show and I can listen while I sit at my sewing machine.
ReplyDeleteI meet with two sewing friends every week for a couple of hours - it is such a refreshing time :-)
ReplyDeleteSadly, no sewing time with friends, but years ago my sister and I would get together once a week with our sewing machines and work on a project together. She got me started in quilting. Fun times!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite sewing time was when I was little. My mom and I would go to craft classes together and I loved that. We would pick out projects and each of us got a butterfly thread holder for being in the class. I still have both of them.
ReplyDeleteMy nicest retreat is a small house in the hills of Sri Lanka. Surrounded by tea country, the place is quiet. No sound for miles other than the train.
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely collection. I would love to win.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to mention my favorite retreat. It was at a small inn where we stayed in cabins and it was sponsored by a q shop--and they brought a pile of fabric with them. So it was shopping too.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love her fabrics. Thank you!

I've never done a retreat and my sewing friends are all online...I do enjoy Quiltcam with Bonnie Hunter occasionally.
ReplyDeleteLast March, I went on a sister's weekend with my 5 sisters. I am the only sewer so it wasn't a sewing retreat but we did stop at a fabric store so they could pick out fabric for me to make each of them a purse. So fun!
ReplyDeleteI have never been on a quilt retreat.
ReplyDeleteI do quilt twice a week at church;
those ladies are awesome, and have taught me a lot.
Thanks for the chance to win!

I've never been in a retreat, it must be awesome!
ReplyDeleteTerrific giveaway, thanks for the chance to win!!
the only person I've ever sewed with is my Mother, she taught me when I was a teenager and we last sewed together about 6 months ago. She can't sew at the moment due to health issues but I'm hopeful that one day we'll work on something together again.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the give away and have a great time!
I have 3 special friends I love to sew with. We meet at the home of one (sometimes others join us) and we work on group projects. We like to have quilts on hand to be able to give to people who are going through a difficult time.
ReplyDeleteMy mother lives 2 hours away and I haven't seen her enough the past few years. Now that we both quilt we've been getting together one weekend a month to sew and laugh. And now my daughter has started a quilt. Best retreats ever!
ReplyDeleteI don't get to retreats or much time to sew with friends, so when I do it is very special and I really enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI do love sewing and my three year old and I do sew at least once a week together (it would go faster without her but it is lovely to share the time with her and encourage her to sew)!
Have a blast at the retreat! My LQS does one each November and this will be my first year! So excited!
ReplyDeleteI have never been to a retreat but would love to.
