Friday Fun Day

Friday, August 5, 2011
Hi Everyone,

This will make 3 giveaways going at the same time... hehe I must be crazy. Today, since there are no tutorials at The Quilted Fish, I thought I would bring you some free patterns from some of the fabric lines I have coming this fall.

This is Karavan isn't it awesome? Here is the link for the PDF.
This is Powerpop isn't it fun...and so simple? Here is the link for the PDF
And of course here is Terrain. Clicky clicky.

I have more and I will post them next week.

For the giveaway this week I am sending a Wrenly Charm Pack. I made it myself... Wrenly is almost gone from the shop but I enjoyed it so much so I thought I would share one last little bit of it with you.

Just leave a comment telling me what you have been looking for a tutorial for... maybe I can whip something up for you for the next newsletter or Friday Fun Day. Please just leave one comment. The giveaway goes until midnight next Friday 8/12/11.

Don't forget to enter today for the 2 yr blogiversary and last weeks giveaway.

Talk soon!

  1. I would love a tutorial for a sewing machine cover... something simple that can be put on and removed quickly. Thanks!

  2. I would love to see a tutorial for how to get Dresden Plate lining up and the circle to lay flat. Beautiful pattern, just seems a bit scary to me.

  3. I'd like a tutorial on y-seams.

  4. I love all of your tutorials...just keep em coming.....and I love the Powerpop.....!

  5. I'd like to have a tutorial for a Nook holder. I've seen Kindle covers made, but haven't seen anything for a Nook. It would be nice to have some sort of thickly padded notebook holder where the Nook goes on the right-hand side and maybe a little pocket on the left-hand side (for a small notepad) and also on the left-hand side little slots (for a couple of pens/pencils). Of course, I wouldn't want to make one, so would have to bribe/pay somebody to make one for me. HA!

    Lovely giveaway.

  6. I am starting to get the hexie bug, so maybe a quick and easy way (if there is such a thing) to make lots and lots of hexies? :)

    ReplyDelete
  7. I do a lot of my own pattern designs, but always enjoy a variation on a 3-D.

  8. Basic as it is, I'd love a tutorial on how to properly square up a quilt! I'm a beginner, and I find myself fretting when I get to that point in the process! :(

Thanks for the chance to win!

  9. Yes, properly squaring up a block and a quilt.
when do you wash your quilt? Before the binding? After the binding?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Oooh, I like the y-seam suggestion above. Continuous bias tape would be useful for me too.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I like tutorials that show you how to make the most out of your fabric, fabric is expensive and if you can get a few projects done out of a yard of fabric tha makes my day : )

  23. Hi, I would love a tutorial on simple machine quilting. I have a pinwheel sampler to quilt, and I would like to do it by machine - but not Free Motion. How do I stop and start each section is one of my burning questions. :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. You are so, so generous to share your tutorials with us! I love them all and can't wait to try them out.

I know this may sound simple, but I've never made a mug mat and think they are adorable. I would like to see a tutorial on one of those.

Thank you again for sharing with us!

  25. I'd quite like a tutorial/tips on the best way to choose fabric online without sticking to bundles or fabric from the same line/designer - how to judge scale, if there is any way to make it easier to judge colour, how many emailed questions to the shop owner is generally acceptable(!), etc. Also, a little look behind the scenes at how you choose which fabrics to stock (or is that too cheeky an ask?!)...oh, and continuous bias binding! Pretty please...with a cherry on top?! Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'll read and be inspired by whatever tutorial you put out!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I can't think of a tutorial I'd like to see, I've already got a list of ones to work on. What I do need is help with interfacing! It drives me crazy especially iron on - those wrinkles grrrrr.
Anyway thanks for a super giveaway, my friends little girl is called Wren and I keep thinking I must get some of this to make her something special.

    ReplyDelete
  28. i would love a Kindle or Ipad touch case with zipper tutorial. i need to figure out pouches and that size seems like a great chirstmas gift!

also, great pattern links thank you.

AND....i am listening to To Tame A Highland Warrior and thought of you when the word intrepid was used to define the maiin character guy!!!

is it bad i dont remember any of their names, and this is my 3 or 4th highlander book...they are all the same...but i like them anyway!

    ReplyDelete
  29. hmmm... surely a quilt would be super cute with these fabrics. :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. I wish I had some Wrenly! I would actually like to find a tutorial for how to apply seam binding in garments (like on the bottom right photo here http://www.oliverands.com/patterns/skirts/patterns5.phtml). It makes a garment look so sophisticated, but it looks sort of complicated!
Thanks again for the great giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I can't seem to get the quilt-as-you-go concept in my mind. I've looked at lots of tute. One of these days I'll get it.....grin...maybe.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Seems like there are so many tutorials out there that I already don't have time to make! BUT, I'm searching for a good messenger bag tute right now to make for my teen daughter...especially with details on what type of interfacing and some good pocket details would be helpful.
    Thanks for the giveaway!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I have been looking for a Christmas skirt tutorial for forever! My hubby and I need one for the upcoming holiday season.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Freebies are always fun!

How about a tute on making bias binding? I've never made any & have been considering doing some curvy corners & I think that would be the way to go.

    Thanks for the chance!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I would like a tutorial on using machine embroidery used for quilting (or how to line up repeats of embroidery).

    ReplyDelete
  38. Karavan looks exquisite made up. Exotic. Love it!

Tutorial? I'm newish to quilting and am already reveling in all the available tutorials. I don't know yet what might be missing from my tutorial world.

I've been admiring Wrenly so much, too, by the way. It alarms me to hear that some of my favourite fabrics are almost gone from the shops. You snooze, you looze ... it seems.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I've been looking for a tutorial for a double sew-in purse frame. I was planning to just figure it out from the single purse frame tutorials I've seen, but since you asked... :D

Thanks for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  44. I agree with a previous commenter - can you help me out with how to square up a quilt (and if you can help me figure out why I can't sew in a straight line... - I know , it's a personal problem, right?!)
Oh, and the projects on the recent newsletter were GREAT!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'd love a tutorial on sewing a cell phone cardigan. I saw one once, but I can't figure it out!

    ReplyDelete
  46. So many people have GO! Baby machines now....I've seen two blogs who had tutes on how to make small or even larger quilts using some dies.

So....I'd like to see that - uses of some specific dies that I might not think of.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Any tutorial would be wonderful! I always looking for great instructions. Thanks for the opportunity to enter your great giveaway!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. So generous again! Thanks for posting all of those projects. I always think about checking fabric websites for projects that feature the different lines, but rarely go on them, so thanks! You brought them to me! As for tutes, I love bags, pouches, containers, etc. Anything to do a little patchwork to come up with a cute container, whether it's for hitting the town or putting my fabric scraps in!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I love that Caravan fabric! It looks so fun! My sewing machine is currently on the fritz so I'm not looking for anything in particular. I love all the tutorials that you feature. I'm saving my faves for when my machine is working again. :)

    ReplyDelete
  50. How about a tutorial on a fabric basket cube? Thanks for the giveaway. I'd love some Wrenly.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I have been looking for a tutorial that explains how to turn binding all the way to the back (so that it doesn't show on the front). I especially struggle with the corners. I use this technique on small items like Mug Rugs that I would prefer the front go all the way to the edge. BTW I can turn it like a pillow but don't like the way the edges look.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I would like a tutorial for one of those hanging thead bags with a pin cushion on top. I know there are probably several out there but I've never seen one and I'd love to make one of those. Thanks for a chance at the beautiful Wrenly.

    ReplyDelete
  53. First, thanks for the links to the PDFs. They are all fun quilts; I especially like medallions and how the prints were used in Karavan.

Everyone has interesting suggestions for tutorials. I like the one for a hanging bag for threads-and Helen's ideas about how to choose fabric online and a behind the scenes view-and I'd like to learn how to make a small zipper pouch (zipper being the key word here!). Your generosity comes through all the time.
Maybe I'll win a giveaway this time..I keep trying :). Your choice of fabrics this week would make any quilter happy. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  54. A TUTORIAL ON SQUARING UP A BLOCK WOULD BE GREAT! IS THERE A RULER OUT THERE FOR THAT? THANKS SO FOR SHARING!

  55. Happy Friday! I would love a tutorial on making slippers. I saw some posted on a website quite a while ago and did not note, if there is a pattern or just what. I would love to make some cute slippers for my mom. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I don't know if it falls into the tutorial category, but I'd love to learn a bit about quilting with fabrics other than quilter's cottons, such as linens or silks. What about those cute voiles I see? So many of the modern designers are releasing beautiful fabrics in categories I am afraid to purchase because I don't know how they would hold up, how I would need to adjust my techniques, etc.
