Pixie Summer Home QAL... It is finally time!

Wednesday, June 22, 2016
Hi Everyone,

I am so excited that the day is finally here that we get to start our quilt along. For a list of supplies and general rules check this post.

I will put up the directions here for the first block but first I wanted to remind you to go to Brooke's blog to put in your link so you can win a prize. If you have never done a link up before all you have to have is a link to a picture, a blog post, your IG account, anything that you can have a URL for really. You enter that link on the link up widget and everyone can see what you are working on. We encourage you to show us the fabrics you chose for the quilt along. We want to see what you are choosing, it is so much fun for us. Also, don't forget to tag on IG #pixiesummerhomeqal so we can see your progress. Don't forget to take a run over to Sally's blog, as well, to see her first blocks. We can't wait to encourage you on your way this Summer. Also any comment you leave on this post will qualify you for a prize from me... this time it will be a fat eighth of each of the fabrics I used for my blocks. I will announce the winner on the next QAL post in 2 weeks.

Directions for the Basic House on the Block: (Here is a PDF you can Download) Note: this is a correction from the original version of the PDF I had one of the cutting directions incorrect.

Cutting:

Background Fabric  2- 5” squares

Roof Fabric 1 – 5” by 9 ½” Rectangle
House Fabric 1 – 5” by 4 ½” Rectangle and 1 – 5” by 2 ½” rectangle
Door Fabric 1 – 5” by 3 ½” rectangle

**All seams are ¼ inch unless otherwise specified.

Assembly:
1. With a pencil mark the back of the two 5” squares of background fabric with a diagonal line.

2. Place one marked square on the left side of the roof fabric, right sides together, matching corners, and sew on the line as shown.

Trim the seam and press the corner out, I press toward the roof but if you prefer to press open that is fine. (Save your corner triangles if you like to make some cute little pinwheel blocks for the back of the quilt.)

Repeat step two with the other side of the roof.

3. Sew the door piece to the right side of the 5” by 4 ½” house piece, then sew the 5” by 2 ½” rectangle of house fabric to the right side of the door.

4. Sew the roof to the top of the house. I know it was so simple :)

And here is another peek at my first blocks:

Hope you have fun making these they are so simple and really like potato chips... you can't make just one :)

PS. I still have kits available for pre-order here

See ya soon :)

Pixie Home Sneak Peek, Hearts for Orlando, and New Stuff

Wednesday, June 15, 2016
Hey Everyone,

There is so much to pack into this post.

I made some sample blocks of the Houses for our Pixie Summer Home QAL. I need to make sure that my patterns were correct before I sent them to Brooke and Sally. I am in love with making these blocks and as soon as I get a few more "Have to Sews" done I will be working on these. Please consider sewing along with us... this is a great scrap busting project and the patterns are free. There is more info in my first post here.  Aren't they fun in the new Cotton + Steel fabrics that are coming soon. Click here if you want a kit

Here is our Quilt Along graphic to share:

Also I did something so stupid... invited everyone to the shop not once but twice for days I couldn't be here... to sew Hearts for Orlando... look here for more information.
I will still be working on these and we will get together soon... just not on the next two weekends.

Finally, a collection I have been looking forward to for more than a year is here... Paper Obsessed by Heather Givens of Crimson Tate.

Aren't they fun!

We are having a sale tomorrow:

We have all of our Cotton + Steel on Sale 20-50% off. We are expecting the new collections in early July (they are up for pre-order in the shop) and we need to make room in the Cotton + Steel cubbie :) This even includes the new Christmas Collection Garland. Sale is on until Midnight Eastern on Thursday 6/16. Please do not use any other coupons or discounts with this sale. Please be patient about shipping I am working alone now so it might take a bit longer for me to get everything out but I will get it to you as soon as I can. Pixie Summer Home Quilt Along

Wednesday, June 8, 2016
Hey Everyone,

My friends Brooke, Sally, and I have teamed up to bring you a fun summer quilt along. We are making houses in some fun new fabrics. There will be 4 free block tutorials and each of us will be putting the blocks together in different ways to make our quilts. We will have linky parties for everyone to show their progress and prizes along the way too. Without further ado....

Here is a digital representation of what my quilt will look like. It is a large lap size at 51" by 63" and I will be making it out of Garland by Cotton + Steel. I have created kits if you want to make one like this or the other one shown below.

Here are our full guidelines (Thanks to Sally)

The Pixie Summer Home Quilt Along

General Information:

For the next 12 weeks, we will be creating an awesome new quilt together. We will have two week assignments AND three different examples to help you choose how you will create your very own Pixie Summer Home Quilt.

Every two weeks, we will post a new block tutorial (created by Julie Dueck of the Intrepid Thread) from which you can create a series of blocks to use in your very own setting of the quilt. With the block tutorial we will post a linky party for you to show off your progress. After four block tutorials and linky parties, we will post suggestions of how to finish your quilt top, and then the last post will be about quilting your quilt, both with linky parties for you to join in with us.

Each of us will be posting giveaways with the block postings, and we will have a Midway prize and an ending Grand Prize. Each post in the linky party earns you an entry for these two prizes!!

Our main goal with this Quilt Along is to sew together. We know that sewing is an awesome experience, but it is made even sweeter and amazing when we sew together!

Guidelines:
June 8th - Introduction, Information, and Guidelines
August 31st - Quilting and Binding your Quilt (on Sally's blog because I was in surgery)

Each week, you will:
1. ...follow the instructions on our post.
2. ...create a piece of your quilt.
3. ...post your progress on the linky party.
4. ... Julie adds :) tag us on IG with your progress #pixiesummerhomeQAL

Here are our first week's instructions:

1. You have two weeks to choose your fabrics.
Fabric Requirements:
1 -  40-pc Layer Cake (make sure it is a full 40-pc layer cake)
or a 20 Fat Eighth pack, 10 fqs, or large scraps.
+ 3 yds for background fabric (for a lap sized quilt)

2. You also have two weeks to decide on your quilt design. Here is my non-Christmas version... it uses a little bit of each of the new Cotton + Steel collections that are coming this month.

You can make as many of each blocks as you want and put them in any order you want. You can recreate one of the patterns we have done. Email one of us if you need any help or have any questions.

3. When you have chosen your fabrics and picked your quilt design OR you've just decided you want to join in, link up so we can connect with you. Remember, it's about sewing together!

We're excited to join with you to create a fun new SUMMER HOME this summer with you!

OOps almost forgot to add the QAL Button

Folk Flowers Kits

Tuesday, June 7, 2016
Hey Everyone,

I put together kits of Mod Corsage for both the super giant Queen size version of Folk Flowers like in the one in the picture with Anna Maria below (don't forget you need to get the class here for the pattern) and for a more modest lap size (51" by 68") as represented here:

The Kit for the Lap size will include 14 quarter yards, all of the background fabrics, and binding fabric. My directions for proper side triangles and putting the quilt together will also be included as the class just teaches the block.

And here is the queen size which is 85" by 102"

Photo by Craftyplanner used by permission.

The Kit for the Queen size will include 24 quarter yards, all of the background fabrics, and binding fabric. My directions for proper side triangles and putting the quilt together will also be included as the class just teaches the block.

Hope you all love them :)
