Happy Monday ... my 600th post and giveaway.

Monday, October 8, 2012
Hi Everyone,

This is my 600th post! Three years and 2 months that is how long it took... I can't believe you all are still hanging out with me but I am so glad you are.

One of the sweet friends I have made along the way is Terry she moved here last year and happens to be an old friend of my Quilted Fish team mate Jana's ... here is the adorable quilt she made from Peak Hour

Peak hour rush hour!
and what a great picture too...

I love having the flickr group so that I can see all of the lovelies you make. Thanks for participating everyone!

Now that I have made a decision about the shop (even though it is scary) I actually got a good night's sleep last night. We are putting in an application for a retail space. It is perfect and when I saw it I knew it had to be mine. More info about the shop later.

So it is 600th post / belated 3 yr blogiversay celebration week. We will do 3 givaways this week (3 for 3 years) starting today. These will be fast and merciless get your comments in quick because you only have 2 days. I will end todays on Wednesday morning when I announce the next giveway so you have today and tomorrow to enter. I will give away a full fat quarter bundle of Avignon for todays giveaway .. look at this great picture Brooke took:

And a little something she is whipping up with it:

Awesome right? This is not the whole collection though. You will receive all 18 prints if you win the giveaway.

To Enter:

Leave a comment telling me what kind of notions that you specifically go to a quilt shop for. Since I know most of us use those 50% off coupons form jo-ann for our notions...what don't you buy from the big J but buy from your LQS? Please do not enter by saying "Please enter me in the giveaway" you actually need to answer the question even if it is only one word like "Patterns" okay? Seems fair to me :)

See ya on Wednesday with the next Giveaway....

  1. I go for better orange and red fabrics. Thanks for the giveaway and congrats on the 3 years of success.

  2. Congrats on 600!
I'm in the UK so don't have a JoAnns or even an LQS but a good local sewing machine shop, I go there for interfacing, ribbon and thread.
    thanks for the giveaway

  3. I go to my LQS when I want good thread like aurifil, and I go to online quilt shops when I want fabric. I try to never buy fabric from Joanns unless it's their Kona or their premium quilting cottons, otherwise the hand is just too rough.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Congrats on 600 posts! I only buy fabric at LQSs (or sometimes online as well) and I also love going to LQSs for some of the fun specialty ruler/templates that are out as well as patterns.

    ReplyDelete
  5. What don't I buy from Joannes (or stores like that)? Fabric, mostly. I'll buy the occassional remnant (or fake fur) from the big box stores but the majority of my stash is from quilt stores (online).

I do tend to buy most of my notions from big box place because they do have those big coupons (I hate paying full price for quilting rulers!). I stock up on all my notions when I go to use a big ticket coupon (on something expensive).

    ReplyDelete
  6. I typically go to the quilt store for fabric. As far as notions go, I like the wider selection of rulers that quilt stores have vs Joann's. Joann's typically doesn't carry the specialty rulers like the twister, hexagon, etc.

  7. hmmm.... I'm not a quilter, and I usually only go to my LQS for better fabric! I do have one close-ish store that carries fun patterns (Amy Butler, Sis Boom, etc) & one that has beautiful ribbon & I make a special trip for those items!

  8. Congratulations on your blogoversary and on your decision. I just drove through San Jose this weekend and thought of you (and my new fabric that is making its way to my home!). I go to my LQS mostly to look at fabric, though I buy most of my fabric on line. I do go specifically to purchase good matching thread for a project, needles and rulers.

  9. blades, pellon, batting, pins, thread, magazines,DMC, novelty fabric of teams like cowboys or mavericks. glue, paint for fabric.. I have in the past bought my cutters and cutting pad, but now I am looking for that great Pad...

  10. I live in Puerto Rico and they don't bring designer cotton prints here. So I buy my fabrics on the internet and threads and other locally.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Congratulations on 3+ years and 600 posts. I go to a lqs to pick up King Tut, Aurifil, and sometimes exclusive patterns from local designers.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I've only purchased fabric from my LQS.

    ReplyDelete
  13. One thing I buy from our LQS is quilt patterns. I love to see quilt samples, and they inspire me to purchase the patterns.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Congratulations! I go to my LQS for my Kona solids. I love the solids and Joannes only has the basic colors. Thank you for a lovely giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Pattern's is a good idea for an answer, and so true. I go to quilt shops to get inspired by looking at all the samples. If I am inspired while I am at the shop, I tend to buy everything I need there.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I bought 505 spray at my LQS because I didn't like the brand Joanne's had in the store. Bought some fabric too, of course :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. I buy just about everything I need at my LQS. I like to actually see things first...lol. I know; old school!! Online is very convenient though. I buy mainly fabric and needles...of course; my rotary blades and now GoBaby dies.

    Thanks for the great giveaway!!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I like to buy individual patterns and books from my local quilt shop.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I need to go get Spray Baste and Quilting Threads, Rotary Blades and Batting.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Oh man, our local quilt shops leave a little to be desired so I don't shop there often, but the couple of things I have bought there are hera markers (I"ve bought more than one, to send to others who can't find them) and I have bought sewing machine needles at the LQS too.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I don't really have any quilt shop in my area and I don't usually buy my fabrics online. All my sewing items come from the rl market. I have my favourite stalls where I get threads and fabrics and yarns.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I usually go for patterns and loads of fabric obviously! I try to buy all my pins and thread etc at Joann's with coupons because I can go there on my lunch break and the LQS is a far drive just to pick up thread and such. Yay for 600!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. my LQS is really not all that local so when i go in it really to get a look at what they have. and make a mental wish list in my head of nice designer fabrics i want...for right now anything in there is not in my budget but its always nice to look around.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't have a Joann's close, so I get most of my notions at my LQS.
FMQ supplies, patterns, quilting thread. Thanks for the chance to win this lovely bundle and congrats on your 600th post! What an accomplishment.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The last thing I went to go buy was safety pins the nice strong big ones to bast my quilts at my local fabric store. Those are beautiful prints :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I always buy my hand sewing needles at the LQS. My favorite brand is Jeanna Kimball needles. Congrats on #600!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I get my thread at my LQS and specialty rulers that Joann's doesn't carry (like the new Jaybird ruler).

    ReplyDelete
  28. Good fabric, of course, extra fine straight pins, Sewline products, Creative Grids Rulers, Auriful Thread, fabulous chunky zippers, Roxanne's Glue, quality hand sewing needles and patterns, of course. The main thing I go to the Big J for is rotary cutting blades. You can't beat the price when you have the big coupon.

    ReplyDelete
  29. The only LQS I've been to is super expensive when it comes to notions, so I go to Joanns mostly for needles and thread when they're on sale / when I have a coupon.

Love the FQ bundle - those colors would be fantastic in my guest room. Thanks for the chance - and congrats on taking such a big next step!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. If I go to buy notions, most of the time I am looking for thread.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Happy 600th! I go for specialty rulers, patterns, and maybe some day when I can afford it high quality thread.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Congrats on 600 posts and 3 years!! I buy Aurifil Thread at my LQS! Thanks for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Congrats on the blogiversary! I tend to go to the LQS for specialty cutting and quilting templates. They also have a better needle selection than my local Michael's (no Joann's near me). Thanks for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I love those coral-y oranges with the blue and yellow, makes me smile. I don't have a LQS. There is a little variety store a few towns away, she carries a few sewing items. I like to browse through her bins of odd rickrack, buttons, and ribbon. I usually find some treasure there.

Congratulations and best wishes on your new adventure!

    ReplyDelete
  35. How exciting for you! Congrats!

I hit up my quilt shop for thread, aurifil and valdani variegated for quilting and batting. I get most of my fabric online.

    Heather

    ReplyDelete
  36. Probably some of the special rulers. I don't find a lot of them at Joann's that are different shapes got cutting anything other than a straight line.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I go to my LQS for fabric and lovely thread. I use JoAnne's for books when they are on serious sale, plus odds and ends quilting supplies, also when on sale. I used to buy more fabric at JoAnne;s, but I much prefer the fabric at my local quilt shops.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I usually go for material and that is when the notions hit me like patterens and anything that makes my job easier. I am always looking for new things. That is a nice give away. marlaruthnelson@gmail.com

    ReplyDelete
  39. I live in the UK, so no Jo-Ann's and no coupons either! I go to my LQS mainly to buy thread, wadding and little things like needles, pins and markers.
    Clare

    ReplyDelete
  40. I go for the comrade ride and the batiks! I get my threads, stash builders and whatever else I need that I don't have. I like online shopping for a line I can't find locally. Congrats on the shop! I see a road trip, you are only 16 hours away.

  42. I go to my lqs to buy my machine quilting thread. congrats on 3 years.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Happy 600th Thread day! I go to my LQS for Aurifil thread, chalk pencils and Best Press. Lovely giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I buy my fabric at the quilt store and my thread at Joann's. Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I go to my local quilt shop for better thread and specialty notions like rulers and markers. I also like to go for inspiration from quilts they have on display!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I buy at my LQS what I can't at a big box store - Famore thread snips, specialty pins, AccuQuilt dies, heat press batting tape, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I get a lot of things from JoAnns, but I look online for baby fabric, they just don't have much to choose from especially for boys. I also like to look on-line for different buttons, they can really dress a project up.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I will buy small notions at my LQS, like a seam ripper if I lose/break mine, or template plastic, rotary cutter blades, sewing machine needles...things I don't want to trek all the way across town to save a buck or two on. I will agree with the better quality threads (and of course fabric, almost never buy that at Jo-Ann) at my LQS too!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I'm a ruler junkie, so that's what I always look for. But to be honest, IWeb don' have the big J in Hawaii and their mail order leaves a lot to be desired, so that's not an option for me!

    ReplyDelete
  50. The only notions I regularly purchase at my LQS are Mary Ellen's Best Press, specialty rulers and "good" thread. The everyday stuff always comes from Joann's with a coupon. Congrats on your 600th post.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I go for the thread until this last outing a week ago...my store is no longer carrying MY thread!!
    Whaaaat??? Why not?, I asked.
    Answer..."we're just not!"
Guess I'll be looking online for a thread source, any suggestions?
    Congratulations!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I like the beautiful, good quality fabrics like Moda etc, beautiful quality batiks, good threads at the local quilt shop. I bought my Baby Lock sewing machines at the local quilt shop. They help me learn how to enjoy my machines. Good people. They have lots of classes, sewing groups meet there. I haven't joined any of that fun, YET, but I will :)
Nice giveaway. Good luck with your new location.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I like to get Aurifil thread at my LQS.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I think I buy all my notions from Joanns with really no exceptions. I even buy my books, patterns (I've seen even seen the Sew Emma & Me and My Sister patterns there), and all my thread there. If I was taking a class at the LQS, I'd buy whatever special ruler I'd need at the LQS. One other thing I did buy was Machinger's Quilting Gloves. The price was the same as online. I bought a Queen Supreme Slider on Amazon, though, because there was more than a $20 difference including shipping. But I do buy nearly all my fabric from quilt stores, mostly yours;)

    Hope that helps! Congrats!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Congratulations on the 600th post! Here in Portugal we don't have Joanns or many specialized quilting stores, so I have to find most of my supplies online. Which is a pitty because I like to see and feel the stuff I am buying...
    Thanks for the giveaway. Hugs

  56. After living in my small town for 11 years, I finally discovered my LQS! So exciting! I do go to Joann's for batting, zippers, rulers and #1 - replacement blades for my rotary cutter with the 50% off coupon of course!!!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Things I've bought from LQS rather than Joann's:
    Colette patterns
    Feet for my sewing machine
Aurifil (although I usually buy online except a rare circumstance when I suddenly need a certain color)
Clover brand items that Joann's didn't stock, like seam ripper, chacoliner, etc

    ReplyDelete
  58. Oh! I haven't seen it at local shops, but I would love to see hand quilting thread, too.

    ReplyDelete
  59. At my LQS I like to buy thread and the brands of rulers that I can't get at JoAnn's. Also, I like to buy Sewline products too.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I purchase from my LQS Aurafil and Mettler thread. Congratulations on you past, present and retail future.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Fabric, thread, and a needle threader. I can only find the threader at one LQS. Congrats on 600th post.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Wow - 600 posts! I go to my LQS for milliner/straw needles and fine pins made by Clover and 40 wt quilting thread.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Congratulations on your 600th post! That is awesome! I usually buy rotary blades, thread, pins in the notions section. And yes with the Joann's coupons they are much cheaper than my LQS!
    Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Congratiulations and thank you for this generous give-away! I go to my LQS to buy thread and batting.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Congratulations on 600! I buy patterns, pins and specific templates/rulers that I can't get at JoAnns.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Let me think...

I always buy tracing pens, because mine always disappear.

Then I buy really special stuff, like little scissors with flower pattern all over, woven labels for quilts, sometimes thread if I need a certain color, the same is for zippers,

    Greetings,
    Tina

PS looking forward to see your shop - this is awesome exciting :-)

    ReplyDelete
  67. Congratulations! Sewing machine needles. Thanks for the great giveaway. (Nice pictures, too!)

    ReplyDelete
  68. Congratulations!
I'm in the UK so I don't have a JoAnns - I use my LQS mainly for threads

    ReplyDelete
  69. I go to see the newest fabrics and books. When I purchase, it's usually one of those things.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I have several shops available with monthly 40% off coupons. I buy the expensive items, rotery cutters and mats, template or ruler sets, precuts of a fabric line ie: fat quarter stack, or if I need a large piece for a backing, say 3-4yds, I use the coupon for the single cut of fabric - especially flannel that is really getting expensive. Patterns are not that expensive and I don't buy books when I have a very large library system and can get most quilt books there. Hope this helps to give you some ideas.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Congratulations! I buy good quality fabric and patterns at the LQS. Thank you for the opportunity.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Unfortunately, Jo-Ann's is my local quilt store :( I have to make a day trip to find a LQS. So, I usually by my notions at the big J!!! Last time I bought a rotating cutting mat. Love it. I also buy my needles and rulers there.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Definitely good thread and needles (both hand sewing and sewing machine)! I like to purchase either Superior or Aurafil from LQS. When buying threads I like to actually see and feel them. Good luck on your new shop!!

    ReplyDelete
  74. I buy my batting by the yard there. Also, needles for my Bernina (she's a dealer) and thread. I'm a thread snob, okay? lol

    ReplyDelete
  75. Congrats. I'm a new follower and love the fabrics you offer. Of course I buy fabric from the real quilt shops but also bobbins and sometimes quilt marking supplies.

    ReplyDelete
  76. HELLO! CONGRATS!
I VISIT MY LQS FOR UNIQUE FABRICS SHE MAY HAVE ORDERED+SPECIAL SALES JUST FOR LOCAL QUILTERS! THANKS!

    msstitcher1948@yahoo.com

    ReplyDelete
  77. I'm from Israel (yes, you have fans here too :)) and most of the notions I buy on Tel Aviv center and the rest I complete online... Congratulations for the 600 posts! I'm your loyal follower :)

    ReplyDelete
  78. Special Quilting needles. Cosmo Embroidery Floss, Higher quality thread... Usually I find better quality items at a LQS. I don't have one close, so it's a treck to get to one.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I buy patterns along with fabric. I love seeing the samples they have done up with the pattern along with it. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  80. I generally buy most of my notions at JoAnns, I go to my LQS for things like Aurafil threads and the Creative Grid rulers... I LOVE those rulers over all the ones I've tried.

    ReplyDelete
  81. My LQS are not so great for modern fabrics, so I don't go there too much, but I will go there for the better thread brands. Congratulations on all the milestones! Can't wait to hear more about your shop decision.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I don't have a local quilt store, but when visiting an area with one I go for the patterns and nicer fabric.

    ReplyDelete
  83. About the only notions I get at an LQS are patterns. Now if my LQS sold cones of King Tut I might go for that, but they don't, so I order online.

    ReplyDelete
  84. The car quilt is adorable.

I use my coupons for cutter blades, batting, rulers and floss.

Congratulations on 600 posts! That is impressive.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I go to my local quilt shop for needles, thread, and hexie templates.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I would love you to stock Aurifil thread and gripping rulers :) Congrats on your anniversary and posts!!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Congratulations on 600 posts. I go to my LQS store for good thread and fabrics and speciality notions.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Better fabric, congratulations on 600 posts

    ReplyDelete
  89. I shop at my local quilt shop for needles that Joann's doesn't carry. Specifically John James Tapestry Petites for cross stitching. I requested that they carry them and now I feel obligated to buy a new pack every couple of months or so. Haha! Gorgeous fabric. I love it!

    ReplyDelete
  90. I agree with stocking Aurifil thread. I have also purchased EPP papers from a LQS on more than one occasion. And maybe some basic hardware, like Key Fob parts and D rings for straps, etc...

    ReplyDelete
  91. I buy Aurifil thread, patterns, and specialty rulers that chain stores do not carry. I also find that I buy fabric for special quilts. Joann's fabric has gone up in price and has more variety than it used to, but for quality fabric, I head to the LQS.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Congratulations! This is a more challenging question for those of us in the UK as we don't have JoAnn's or similar - yeah we miss out on all those special Denyse Schmidt lines grrrr. So never having been in a JoAnn's type store and not having a lqs I really have to rely on the internet. I suspect if I had a lqs thread would be my most often purchase item and possibly pins and rulers as I'm sure with the latter the LQS would be able to advise and suggest stuff to me!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Congrats! I mostly just buy fabric at the LQS because I can get the other notions cheaper at JoAnns's or on online stores. But I have bought little neat tools that I never would have seen at JoAnn's or online - like "The Purple Thang" or specialty rulers. Patterns are another thing.
So happy for you and all your success!

    ReplyDelete
  94. All my fabric!! I don't buy fabric from Joanns hardly ever unless for the occasional Kona of the small selection they do have there!

    Congrats on your building purchase
    :)

    ReplyDelete
  95. I get specialty rulers from my LQS, also quilting and piecing thread.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Congratulations Julie and continued success on the web and your new retail space! Paper piecing supplies and Oliver & S patterns are the notions I typically buy at my LQS.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Congrats on the milestone and bigger congrats on finding the perfect brick and mortar shop. I can't wait to hear more.

From my LQS, besides loads of great fabric of course, I buy the speciality notions not carried by the big box stores, like the Creative Grid rulers, other speciality rulers, Supreme Sliders, magic bobbin washers and my favorite disappearing marking pen. I love finding what new cool things they are carrying.

    ReplyDelete
  98. If I'm honest I'm gonna have to say that I haven't actually ever stepped foot into my local quilt shop. I keep meaning to but you know how it is.

I go to big box stores for everything pretty much, I'm way too scared to shop online...

    ReplyDelete
  99. Congratulations! I have only known you two years...but I am still here!! No JoAnns in France (unfortunately) so can't answer your question. Hugs

    ReplyDelete
  100. Congrats on your 600th post!!! I can't wait to hear more about your space and store! Awesome giveaway Julie!!! I've been eyeing up Avignon since you listed it in the shop! For notions I LOVE specialty rulers, pressing tools, quilting stencils, patterns, books, scissors, threads (love Aurifil)and just about every unique and fun notion available hahaha! I'm kinda a gadget girl! I don't have a local quilt shop or Joanne's so I have to order all my notions online.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Congrats!!! I typically buy thread at LQS because they tend to have better quality and more selection than chain stores. I also go to LQS to find specialty quilting notions that chain stores don't carry, like templates that are different than the norm. Oh yeah, and specialty quilting magazines.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Happy Blogoversary! I always always go to my LQS for Machine Embroidery Thread...yes, Joanns has it but not the good stuff :-) Thanks!!

    vbehymer at gmail

    ReplyDelete
  103. Congrats on your blogging milestones! I don't have a good LQS near me (or at least one with friendly people), so I don't usually shop there. I'll buy good quality thread online, because it's hard to find what I want at JoAnn's.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Congratulations! I go for fabrics, needles and threads to my local quilt Shop. Thanks so much!

    ReplyDelete
  105. I can only find the leather thimbles that I love at quilt shops.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I don't have a LQS, but when I get to one I buy rulers,,and more rulers. Congrats on your blogiversary.

    ReplyDelete
  107. JoAnn's is only for sale and coupon items (pads, cutters, blades) and batting in bulk. I much prefer my LQS for patterns, specialty rulers, far better thread than JoAnn's will ever sell, and sometimes a kit that is far too cute to pass up.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Congrats!!! I try to only buy thread at my LQS vs. Joanns because of the brands. Sometimes I'm desperate and buy the Mettler at Joanns. I do regularly buy batting and rulers at Joanns due to the coupons. I was at my mom's this weekend and we went to Hancock's. My first time there in YEARS. They had the Best Press Starch on sale so we both bought some to give it a try.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Congratulations on 600 posts. WTG! I go to a quilt shop in search of applique pins (I'm always losing them) and those little paper shapes for my hand-sewn hexagons. Then I just look through all the other notions they have and usually find something else I just have to have. Thanks for the opportunity to win your giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I go for quilting rulers, quality thread and to look at a wide range of unusual fabrics. Congratulations on 600 posts and the shop sounds good, pity it's on the wrong continent for me.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I buy all my notions from my LQS. The nearest Jo-Ann's is 100 miles away. I've tried to use my coupons at their online store, but they are always out of what I want or it isn't eligible for the coupon online or some other reason why I can't use it.

However, if I did live near a Jo-Ann's (or some other big box craft/sewing store) I'd still buy my thread and embroidery floss from my LQS. I also prefer to buy zippers from my LQS. Our Wal-mart does carry zippers, but not in the fun, modern colors my LQS carries.

Congratulations on the new retail space! I know working from home is nice (I do it), but then you are always at work which can be a problem.

    ReplyDelete
  112. I actually don't live near any national fabric chains. My LQS has a lot of fabrics, for cheap.

    serenap95(at)hotmail(dot)com

    ReplyDelete
  113. Happy Monday!!!! And congrats on your 600th post!!! That is quite a milestone =D A retail space too!!!! so so so exciting!! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you =D

Terry's and Brooke's projects are super cute!! I wish my Peak Hour project had turned out even 1/2 as cute!!!

So, notions...are bobbins notions? I have to buy those at the sewing machine store, because my machine doesn't like the bobbins at JoAnn's. Oh and sewing machine needles, because the store I go to always has them buy three get one free :) That way I don't feel guilty leaving with 8 packs of needles LOL!!

    hugs!!!! and Congrats again Julie!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  114. Better fabrics! And a better variety of things like rulers. And individual patters. JoAnns has a good variety of books, but not many individual patterns.

    ReplyDelete
  115. That special fabric that just makes it POP! Congrats on your perseverance!

    ReplyDelete
  116. I go specifically to my lqs for patterns, threads, and specialty rulers as well as what I may need while in a class. soparkaveataoldotcom

    ReplyDelete
  117. Wow congrats on 3 years of blogging!! And yay for your giveaway!! I go to the LQS for thread usually - and whatever else happens to fall in my basket!! I like to buy a zipper when I am out and about as well - aways handy to 'just have in'.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Congrats with 600 followers.
I am from Belgium and i love to sew.

  119. Hi! What a beautiful bundle!
I live in Greece and here are no quilt shops at all, even fabric shops are really hard to find. I by from the local shop only some solids and from an other one threads, ribbons and yarn to knit.
    Sunny wishes from Greece!

  120. Congratulations! I don't shop Joanns - my two LQS make me happy and I support a local business. I love buttons, variety of thread, zippers, things for my machines (bobbins, needles, oil), findings for bag and tote making, templates and rulers.

    ReplyDelete
  121. yea!
I can't wait to come visit you in your shop! :)
I go to a quilt shop for thread (Aurifil is my favorite), and fancy-pants rulers with interesting shapes/functions. Also, if they have the basics, I often pick them up while I'm there, because a trip to JoAnn's isn't always convenient!

    ReplyDelete
  122. I buy zippers, clover binding clips, patterns, and my english paper piecing pieces from my LQS.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Hmm I usually only go to the LQS for fabric. But I guess patterns would be good. I would also like templates. Thanks for the oppertunity and good luck on the space!

    ReplyDelete
  124. My LQS is really far away and I only get there when going to visit my mom because it is on the way. I don't buy any notions or patterns there. I buy fabric. I love their Grandma's scrap packs. They always have such a nice variety of matched remnants in them. I also buy die-cut fabric pieces for my daughter to applique.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I go to my LQS for a better quality fabric, and threads.

    ReplyDelete
  126. I tend to buy marking pens and pencils and specialty rulers. Of course needles and thread. Maybe it would be easier to indicate what I don't buy. The brick and mortar chance is exciting!

    ReplyDelete
  127. I got to my lqs for fabric.... I don't feel like you can get good quality fabric at the big box stores. :) I also get some of the specialty stuff that I can't always find at the big boxes. :) congrats on the 600th post!

    ReplyDelete
  128. As I'm another UK-er, I don't have an LQS or a JoAnn's equivalent, but when I head over for SS this week I'm hoping to find all the things I see people mentioned like the Clover seam rippers, the amazing hand quilting black gold needles, and hopefully decent quilting pins that I can buy cheaper than I can get them for over here (it's seriously eye-watering for the Clover glass and flower headed ones at about $13 per pack)

    ReplyDelete
  129. So far I have only gone to my LQS for fabric but she has some patterns that I have been looking at and when I need it I will purchase thread.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Best Press, EPP papers, sewline glue stick...

Been doing a lot of EPP!

    ReplyDelete
  131. I've bought some rulers and templates that aren't common enough to be in a big store like JoAnn's, like a large 20" square and other specialty things. christina112358 at gmail dot com

    ReplyDelete
  132. I shop at my LQS for patterns and notions and any fat quarters that catch my eye.

    Congratulations on 600 posts.

    ReplyDelete
  133. we buy pre-wound bobbins at our lqs. it makes it so much easier to just drop in a new bobbin rather than stopping to wind another!

    ReplyDelete
  134. Happy 3 years! I almost always buy my fabrics from my LQS or another mom and pop that is bit farther away. I use my 50% at Joanns for batting, blades, or interfacing but that is not common as it is quite a drive for me to get there. I miss the old local store, Rag Shop, that closed about 6 years ago and carried everything.
I love my LQS, the workers are great and friendly and you can't find that just anywhere. And it is great to walk into a store and get a personal greeting. (Though that might also be because I am there every week)

    ReplyDelete
  135. Since I moved to the woods I don't have access to Joann's anymore. Sigh. I rely on my LQS for most things these days. I love notions so I'm always looking for the latest gadget in the notions department. I love specialty rulers and cutting tools.

    ReplyDelete
  136. The notion I purchase most often...needles! I must have really strong fingers....I break more needles than I thought possible.

    sowingstitches [at] gmail [dot] com

    ReplyDelete
  137. I buy batting and white fabrics or some very particular, sometimes kits or patterns.
thank you so much for this new opportunity and congratulation on your goal!

    ReplyDelete
  138. I'm in the uk too so no Joanns :-( but I use my local sewing shop for thread and interfacing and zippers!

    ReplyDelete
  139. Congrats! on 3 year Blogaversary! & 600th Post!! WOOOHOOOO! and NOW a Brick & Mortar Store!! God Bless ALL you put your hands to do!!!

I get all I can at JA's using coupons. Don't really have a LQS close around us....but love goin' to an Amish place near me!! Get fabrics, patterns, threads.

Thanks for chance to win your fun Drawing!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  140. Creative Grids rulers! I love this particular brand of rulers, and am looking to replace all of my rulers with this brand.

    ReplyDelete
  141. I buy specialized rulers from the LQS (like triangles, etc.) or patterns...I wish I could buy everything from the LQS and not Joann's, but alas in this economy I have to save every penny I can so I can buy more fabric =)

    Congrats on the anniversary!! =)

    ReplyDelete
  142. Its usually about balance...LQS for great fabric, shop made patterns, and anything for my machine (since I also purchased that there!). Box stores for non-special fabrics (for quick projects), notions, and to save a buck now and again. I want to get a good deal but I also want to support a local business. Hopefully there is enough business to go around.

    ReplyDelete
  143. I'm in the UK so no Joanns. In what passes for a LQS I would generally buy thread, ribbons, needles and some Kona/klona solids, interfacing and wadding. Most fabric and other notions I buy online.
Congrats on 3 years and a lot of blogging :)

    ReplyDelete
  144. Congratulations! I usually always get more needles for my sewing machine or rotary blades when I have 50% off.

    ReplyDelete
  145. congrats! what an adventure a new space will be! I go to my local shop for her zippers - she has awesome bright colors and joannes only has the one brand in kind of bland colors.

    ReplyDelete
  146. I go to my LQS to find notions such as:
Templar plastic - used to make applique pieces the starch and ironing way.

Thread : 100% cotton Mettler Thread and YLI silk thread and Aurifil thread

Creative Grids Rulers. These are not sold in chain stores and only available to Quilt stores.

Jeana Kimball Needles (FoxGlove Cottage) These are the BEST needles for handwork. Especially the Straw needles size 9-10-11

"Soft Fuse" Fusible Interfacing - this is the BEST for machine applique that does not leave your fabric stiff. Not to be confused by any other name. :)

Annie's Soft and Stable - Best for lining purses and totes. Gives them great support. Stiffer than Pellon Fleece.

Purse notions - we need supplies of good quality hardware -

I hope that these ideas have helped.

  147. Congratulations! Creative Grids rulers! I bought a big pack of Omnigrid at Joann, but I hate them, so I'm replacing them veeeerrrrry sloooowwwllly at my LQS. I would also buy better thread if my machine didn't hate Mettler. As it is now I buy Gutterman at Joann (because my machine doesn't throw a total hissy fit at it), but I would buy Aurefil (sp) or something else if they sold it locally.

    ReplyDelete
  148. I get stencils and patterns at my LQS.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Congratulations on everything- making a big decision, 600 posts, three year blog anniversary. We don't have a Joanns either but notions that I would get at the LQS- thread, speciality rulers, certain patterns (although how would you know what to stock without too much on your hands), nice needles- just not the every day stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  150. rulers... walmart doesn't carry many

    ReplyDelete
  151. I haven't been there in a while, but when I go, I usually buy the specialty stuff: felt, yarn, unique buttons, the occasional pattern, yarn, and kid fabrics.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Congrats on 600! I just bought THE BEST little thimble at my LQS. Couldn't find anything like it anywhere else!

    ReplyDelete
  153. Congratulations !!!

I love going to my local shop to touch and feel everything! I buy most everything there. I like chit chatting with the ladies :-)One thing I LOVE at my lqs is every month we can pick up for free a square of fabric, we then make a 12in block with it and return it, then at the end of the month a name gets drawn from the participants and the winner receives all that months blocks made from the same print fabric and its a total surprise to see what everyone created. I barely ever go to "J" and if I do its really not for fabric or sewing items.

    ReplyDelete
  154. My LQS carries an awesome line of buttons.

    ReplyDelete
  155. I love to just go and wander and look at the material and finished quilts to get ideas plus get cute patterns.

pins, blades, battinng. So I buy my fabrics on the internet.

    ReplyDelete
  157. honestly, the only LQS I have near me is much odler prints and civil war styles and dark colors so I don't buy fabric.. they did however have really cute notecards that i bought.. haha sorry im not much help, congrats~

  160. I don't think my comment saved so here goes again. First of all congratulations on 600 posts AND the new store! I can't wait to see what you've chosen and what you do with it.
I go to J's with my 50% off coupons for Warm & White batting (I have bought the entire roll twice now), Kona white (as much as they have on a bolt) and basting spray. I go to my LQS for Mettler thread and YLI variegated thread. My J's and LQS are about 1.5 hours from home. :S

    ReplyDelete
  161. I have NO LQS near me. It's very sad. Not a JoAnn's, not a Michael's. So unfortunately I have to do ALL of my shopping online. It can be the pits sometimes, but mostly I find places with great shipping and great prices and of course coupons. I don't even shop at the JoAnn's online. Their shipping is just too much for me and if you want free shipping you can't use any other discount, so that's not where I like to go.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Congrats on 3 years and an amazing 600 posts!!
I usually stock up on thread, charm packs, and needles.

    ReplyDelete
  163. When I have a chance to go to a quilt shop, I always look at any completed projects displayed -- and if I see something I fall in love with, I buy the pattern pronto! I rarely go to JoAnn's...

    ReplyDelete
  164. WOW, what a generous giveaway! Congrats on 3 years, 600 posts, and the retail space! I'm not a fan of the one LQS here, so I do most of my shopping online. Notions I buy are things like snaps and zippers, d-rings, interfacing... I only go to Jo-Ann's when they are having a big sale, or for some solid Kona. Sometimes thread if I don't want to wait for it to ship. Have a good giveaway week!

    ReplyDelete
  165. i get some specialty fabrics at the LQS but usually just go in to look.

    ReplyDelete
  166. you know, i don't really buy many notions in general and haven't found a lqs. but i think i would definitely go in for patterns.

    ReplyDelete
  167. i go to my lqs for thread, batting, fusibles, most templates and whatever new gadgets she has. of course, one always get a coupla yards of irresistible eye candy while you're there. congrats on on your numbers ... thanx for celebratory giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  168. Congratulations! What wonderful news and how exciting for you. I travel to my lqs for better fabric choices. And different patterns.

    ReplyDelete
  169. I tend to buy colored threads at the LQS to match my quilts, although I generally buy my white at Joann's when it goes on sale (since you can never have too much white I stock up).

    ReplyDelete
  170. What a gorgeous line Avignon is! I buy several notions etc. at my LQS. Of course good thread like Aurifil, Cosmo embroidery thread, needles, Thangles, patterns, english paper piecing templates and speciality rulers.

Congratulations on your 600 blog posts! and Congratulations on the decision to open a retail store. I live a couple of hours away and I'd love a day trip with friends to come for your Grand Opening! hehe. Thank you for such a wonderful giveaway and a chance to win some beautiful fabric.

  171. I do typically buy notions at J or Hancocks, but I've also bought special rulers and patterns at my LQS. Congrats on 3 years!

    ReplyDelete
  172. Congrats on 3 years, 600 posts, and the new space! :) I usually buy thread at my local quilt shop. Joanns doesn't carry the good stuff like Aurifil and Mettler, so I pick it up locally. Zips, perle cotton balls, and some bag making hardware are also things that I would prefer to pick up locally.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Hi first of all congrats on 600 posts!! Amazing!!! Here in NZ I go to our local quilt shop for patterns, threads. But also for inspiration-seeing finished quilts in new fabric ranges. Also for advice. Hope this helps, Michelle.

    ReplyDelete
  174. I would probably go to find a specific fabric. I moved though, and I haven't found a quilt shop yet sadly.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Woohoo!!! A retail store!! And I live close enough to make the trip (Healdsburg). You better let us know when your grand opening is, cause I'll be there!! :-P Ok, notions: I go for the more specialty items that big J doesn't carry, Like I'm interested in the Hexagon cutting tool that just came out by JBird Quilts, and I go to my LQS for 100% cotton machine thread (I don't want cotton covered Polyester.) Also silk pins and the glass headed pins, but not over
1 3/8" long. Also, My ABSOLUTE favorite ruler is the O'lipfa Optima:It has black markings and is SOOO much easier to real than my Omnigrid rulers. I reach for it anytime that it will work for me and I would love to get more (I only have the 6.5" square one.) Also a cool new tool I saw at the last quilt show I went to is "Bloc-Loc" (blocloc.com) they may sell wholesale, and they will be at PIQF if you are going so you can see how they work. I bought one and it is a great concept. Good luck!!! Helen

  176. Congrats on the 600 posts, that is super. I buy material and zippers from my local quilting store. I am new to quilting and my stash is not the biggest and I always end up needing some fabric. thanks

    ReplyDelete
  177. I love that Avignon. From my LQS, which is you and a couple others, I buy most of my fabric, patterns and threads. The closest quilt shop is in KC and I don't go that often. I love armchair shopping. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  178. Yay for a retail space!!! That's so exciting, congratulations!! I go to LQSs for specialty rulers and when I need thread other than Guttermann for quilting or for had sewing.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Happy 600! I am posting my 100th, 600 seems a long way away! I buy thread, patterns and fabric always at 50 or 40 percent off! Love those coupons!

    ReplyDelete
  180. Congratulations! It is a great aceivement to get to 600 posts. I have my own blog, but struggle to maintain it.
I've actually had to think quite hard at what I have bought from a Local quilt shop. I don't like either of them very much. I think all I have bought from them besides, a tiny bit of fabric, is one small reel of thread. I buy everything I need from Spotlight or online.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Congratulations Julie!
I like to buy coloured thread and embroidery thread in person - I can get my Aurifil 2021 online, but anything else, I love to fondle first!

    ReplyDelete
  182. Congratulations on a big milestone! I shop for batting, 505 spray, zippers, interfacing!! My list could be quite long! Thanks for a wonderful giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  183. I haven't entered one of your giveaways for some time. Thought it was time now! Because i LOVE those colors! I am guilty of shopping at Joanns but I do go to a LQS near me at times. I like buying my refills for my marking pencils there and she carries the better fabrics as well. The owner gives quilt classes there and I like listening to their chatters as I shop lol

    ReplyDelete
  184. I go to my LQS for notions tha Joann's doesn't have. Especially when I need it for a project I am ready to start. They will always special order a notion, pattern, or book for me. They get it quick too. Thanks for the giveaway. Love your fabric. Mary :-)))

    ReplyDelete
  185. I get my zips and interfacing, and I like to see ideas of fabric bundles xx

    ReplyDelete
  186. I purchase specialty rulers, patterns and quilt shop quality fabrics from quilt shops. From Joanns, I may purchase threads, rotary blades & pins - with a coupon of course. Thanks for the chance to win. Congrats on your 600th post.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Congratulations! Isn't it amazing to think that you've done 600 posts?

I love rulers, thimbles, hand-sewing and quilting needles, things like that, so I always buy those items at my LQS. Of course I check out the fabrics there, too. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  188. Specialty rulers and thread. I can't get the high quality quilting threads at JoAnns like Superior, so I spend quite a lot on thread at my last.

    ReplyDelete
  189. Needles, thread, pencils, rotary blades, interfacing, batting. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  190. I'm a sucker for speciality rulers. Good luck with the store!

    ReplyDelete
  191. I go to my LQS for fabric, patterns and to see what new gadgets they may have. Congrats on your 600th post and new store!!

    ReplyDelete
  192. Congratulations wow 3 years and 600 post and now a retail space!! That is truly wonderful! I am glad you found a space that you really like! I do not have a shop close to me, so when I do get to go I stock up on good thread, any rulers I need, and the LQS I go to carries DMC embroidery floss too. I love that since I like to do handwork! I usually buy my fabric online! Love those coupon codes!lol

    ReplyDelete
  193. Love the quilt. Congrats on the new shop you are going to have. The reason I go to quilt stores is for templates, thread for embrodiery and then lots of fabric.

    ReplyDelete
  194. Congratulations on your 600th post and belated 3 year anniversary. We don't have Joanne's here in Australia. I go to my LQS for my fabric.

    ReplyDelete
  195. Congrats! I typically get most at my shop not just to support them to keep them in business because they are truly great and help me all the time with laughter.

    ReplyDelete
  196. One of the local quilt shops has all the different colors of zippers to use for the little duffles and clutch's we have all been making. So I will say zippers, patterns and some embroidery threads.

    ReplyDelete
  197. Rotary blades.

    Congratulations on all your post.

    ReplyDelete
  198. That's rather a tough question because I really think it's important to support my LQS/Sewing Center by buying from them. I buy from "J" with the good coupons when there is something that's esp. expensive and feel that's the only way I can afford it. So...I buy lots from my LQS. BTW, I attend classes and on the day of the class I get a discount on anything I buy from the LQS. :)
